On the 6th day of August 1859
the Will of Thomas Quintrell
late of Dorset Street Landport Portsmouth
in the County of Southampton Shipwright
deceased, who died on the 17th day of July
1859,
was proved in the Principal Registry of
Her Majesty’s Court of Probate, by the Oaths of Thomas Quintrell
of No. 114 Drury Lane in the County of Middlesex Grocer Henry
Quintrell of No. 41 Dorset Street aforesaid Shipwright John
Quintrell of Durham Street Southsea in the said County of
Southampton Linen Draper the Sons and Mary Quintrell of No. 41
Dorset Street aforesaid spinster the Daughter the Executors
therein named they having been first sworn duly to administer,

Trusting in the Supreme that I may be full
prepared for that fatal hour when I shall cease to exist I
Thomas Quintrell of Landport in the County of Southampton
Shipwright make this my last Will and Testament and dispose of
all my worldly estate and effects in manner following that is to
say First I direct that all my just debts funeral and
testamentary expenses be fully paid and satisfied out of my
personal estate I nominate and appoint my sons Thomas Quintrell
Henry Quintrell and John Quintrell and my daughter Mary
Quintrell Executors and Trustees of this my Will and I give to
them and their heirs all trust estates vested in me as a Trustee
and Mortgagee I give and bequeath all my household goods
furniture and domestic equipment plate linen and china unto my
beloved wife Elizabeth Quintrell absolutely I give devise and
bequeath all my real estate and the rest residue and remainder
of my personal estate unto my Executors and Trustees
hereinbefore named upon the following trusts namely Upon trust
that my said Executors and Trustees shall and will pay over and
allow my said dear Wife Elizabeth to receive and take the rents
issues and annual produce of my said real estate and the
interest of the money arising from the residue of my said
personal estate to and for her own use and benefit during the
term of her natural life And after the decease of my said Wife
Upon trust that they my said Trustees or the survivor of them or
the heirs executors or administrators of such survivor sell my
real estate and call in all money out at use and convert into
money all the residue of my personal estate and set apart and
invest the sum of Seven hundred pounds sterling upon mortgage
security on freehold property out of the money arising from my
real estate and the residue of my personal estate as aforesaid
(such investment to be made with the consent and approval of my
said daughter to be testified by some writing under her hand)
and to pay and apply the annual interest and proceeds of the
said sum of Seven hundred pounds unto my said daughter Mary
during celibacy or widowhood but in case my said daughter should
happen to marry then I direct that during such time and such
time only as she shall have a husband living she shall receive
no more than an annuity of ten pounds and the overplus or
remainder of the interest to be equally divided between my three
sons before mentioned their executors or administrators But in
the event of her becoming a Widow my Will is that she shall
again enjoy the whole annual interest and proceeds of the said
sum of Seven hundred pounds so to be invested as aforesaid and I
further direct that all legacy or other duty due from my
daughter on account of the annuity arising from the investment
of the said sum of Seven hundred pounds shall be paid out of the
other portion of my personal and real estate and immediately
after her decease the said sum of Seven hundred pounds shall be
divided equally amongst my three sons Thomas Quintrell Henry
Quintrell and John Quintrell their executors or
administrators and as to all the rest of
my personal and real estate (after my wife’s death) and after
the conversion thereof into money and the provision therefrom
for my said daughter as aforesaid I give devise and bequeath the
same unto my said Executors and Trustees In trust to divide the
same equally between my said three sons Thomas Quintrell Henry
Quintrell and John Quintrell their executors or administrators
and I hereby direct that the receipt or receipts of my said
Trustees shall be good and effectual discharges for any money to
be paid to them under the trusts of this my Will and that the
person or persons so paying any money to my said Trustees shall
not be answerable for the application thereof or accountable for
the nonapplication thereof nor shall any such person be bound to
make any enquiry whatsoever respecting the same And I hereby
direct that my trustees and executors shall not be answerable
for the arts deeds and defaults of the other of them nor shall
he she or they be accountable for more money than shall actually
come into the hands of him her or them respectively and revoking
all former Wills by me at any time made I declare this only to
be my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I the said
Thomas Quintrell the Testator have to this my last Will and
Testament contained in three sheets of paper set my hand and
seal in manner following that is to say to the first two sheets
hereto annexed my hand and to this third and last sheet my hand
and seal this second day of June in the year of our Lord One
thousand eight hundred and fifty nine Thomas Quintrell (?)
Signed sealed and acknowledged by the said Thomas Quintrell the
Testator as and for his last Will and Testament on the day of
the date in the presence of us present at the same time who have
at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other
subscribed our names as witnesses hereto – Wm. Messun Robert
