WILL OF RICHARD
PYSINGE of Crewkerne, Somerset
Dated 13 Apr 1588, Proved 25 Jun 1588
In the name of god, amen The thirtenthe
Daye of Aprill in the yeare of our Lord god according to the
computation of the churche of England A thousand five hundred
Eightye and eighte and in the thirtith yeare of the reigne of
our most gracious Soveraigne Ladye Elizabeth by the grace of god
Quene of England ffrannce and Ireland Defender of the ffaithe
etc I Richard Pysinge of Crewkerne in the County of Somerset
yeoman being sick of bodye yet wholle of mind and of perfecte
remembrance (the praise onely be given unto god therefore) for
doubte of sodayne Deathe and also for quietting of my owne minde
being Desyrous in this Vale of miserye and wretched worlde to
sett forthe howe suche goodes and chattalls as god hathe
bestowed uppon me thertoe be used and bestowed when I am gonne
for the advancement and quietnes of my wyfe and children for
whome Dutye and nature compelleth me to provide Doe make and
Declare this my Last will and testament subscribed with my owne
hande in manner and forme following / ffirst renouncing all
other willes by me at any time heretofore made I Doe whollye and
hartely [heartily] give and bequeathe my Sowle unto Almighty god
beleving Undoubtedly that I shalbe saved and shalbe partaker of
the ioyes in heaven perpetually by the Deathe and passion of
Jesus Christ the sonne of god savyour and Redemer of all
mankinde / And my body to be buryed in the churche of Crewkerne
at the pleasure of my executrix hereafter named / Item my will
and minde is and by this my Last will and testament I Doe give
and bequeathe unto Elizabeth Pysinge my Daughter forty
pounds of good and Lawfull money of England / Item my will and
intent further is that all suche howseholde stuff and implements
of howseholde as are in my howse at Hawkechurche in the county
of Dorset (a Cubborde a table borde and a Joyned forme in the
Hall of the same howse onely excepted) Robert Pysinge my
sonne shall have unto whome I Doe give and bequeathe the
same / And Lykewise my minde and intent is that the saide Robert
my sonne shall after my Deathe have the use and occupation of
the same Cubberde table borde and ioyned forme During his
naturall lyfe / And that after his Deathe my minde and intent is
that Elizabeth my Daughter shall also (surviving the same Robert
her brother) have the use and occupation of the saide cubborde
Table borde and Joyned forme During her naturall Lyfe taking
order to leave the same after her Deathe unto the children of my
saide sonne Robert surviving the said Elizabeth my Daughter or
otherwise to suche of my childrens’ children as shalbe then
living unto whome I Doe give and bequeathe the same / Item my
will and intent Lykewise is that Margery Pysinge my
Wyfe During so Longe time as she shall live Sole and
unmaryed shall have the use and occupation onely of two greate
anndyrons [andirons] two greate broches the table borde frame
framed forme and cubbord in the hall being in my howse at
Crewkerne aforesaid and a ffurnace panne or brewing panne for
her necessary use / And that after her mariage or Deathe or when
my saide wyfe shall Dispose the same anndyrons broches table
borde frame framed forme cubbord and ffurnace panne or brewing
panne or any of them contrary to my intent before and hereafter
expressed, my minde will and intent is that my saide sonne
Robert Pysing shall then Lykewise have the use and occupation
onely of the same anndyrons broches and ffurnace panne for his
necessarye use onely During his naturall lyfe / And that after
the Deathe of my said sonne Robert or when my said sonne Robert
shall dispose the same anndyrons broches table borde fframe
framed forme cubbord and ffurnace panne or brewing panne or any
of them contrary to my intent before and hereafter expressed /
My minde will and intent is that then Marye Labye my Daughter
(surviving the saide Robert uppon any Disposition as aforesaid)
shall have the use and occupation onlye of the saide anndyrons
broches table borde frame framed forme cubbord and furnace panne
or brewing panne during her naturall Lyfe, taking order to leave
the same after her Deathe unto the children of my saide sonne
Robert Survivinge the saide Marye or otherwise to the children
of the saide Marye and others of my childrens children as shalbe
then livinge unto whome I Doe give and bequeathe the same / Item
my will minde and intent also is that the benefite penaltye and
forfeiture of one obligation wherein one Richard Everall of the
parishe of Hawkechurche aforesaide standeth bounden unto me my
saide sonne Robert Pisinge Elizabeth Pisinge and Joane Hull
my Daughters and the survivor and survivors of them shall have
equally to be Devided amongest them So as the condition of the
same obligation be not performed or the saide Robert Elizabeth
and Joane my sonne and Daughters or any of them shalbe
interrupted molested or evicted by any of the children of the
saide Richard Everell pretending any Righte title or interest to
suche copyeholde Lands and tenements within the parrishe of
Hawkechurche aforesaide wherein the saide Robert Elizabeth and
Joane my sonne and Daughters have estate and interest by
copye of Court Roll And for theire better benefite therein to
use the name of my executrix in any Action or Actions as shalbe
thoughte best for the recovery thereof And my will and minde is
that Robert my sonne During his Lyfe shall have the keping and
custodye of the said obligation to these and intent herein
expressed / Item I give and bequeathe to eache and every of my
childrens’ children twelve pence / Item I give and bequeathe
unto eache and every of my godchildren foure pence / All the
residue of my goods and chattalls my Legacies performed I Doe
give and bequeathe unto Margery my wyfe whome I Doe make
my Executrix performing and suffering every thing herein
expressed to remaine and be according to my true meaning and
intent herein Or otherwise my saide Daughter Elizabeth to have
so muche and so manye of my saide goods and chattals as to paye
and performe her Legacye of ye fforty pounds and the residue
remayning to be to those of all my children equally to be
Devided amongest them / And overseers to see this my Will and
testament performed and executed according to my intent and true
meaning herein I Doe apppointe my said sonne Robert Pysing and
Thomas Hull my sonne in Lawe And to eache of them
Doe I give three shillings and foure pence / In Wittnesse
whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and putto my seale in
the presence of those whoso named be hereunto subscribed the
Daye and yeare abovesaid / and for any thing else hereunto added
my name thereunto subscribed shalbe and stand as parcell of my
Will and testament / By me Richard Pysinge / Memorand
that these wordes (after her Deathe the Table borde frame framed
forme and cubbord in the hall being in my howse at Crewkerne)
weare enterlyned in every place before then sealing and
subscribing hereof in the presence of these whose names bee
