The Will of William Pullinger

 

This is the last Will and Testament of me William Pullinger late of Selsey in the County of Sussex Builder but now of Brighton in the same County Gentleman I give and bequeath to my dear Wife Amy Pullinger the use and enjoyment (but not the property) of all the household goods furniture plate linen and china which shall be in and about my dwelling house at the time of my decease for and during the term of her natural life And I direct a proper Inventory to be taken thereof as soon as conveniently may be after my decease and one copy thereof delivered to my said Wife and another to my Executor hereinafter named And from and immediately after the decease of my said Wife I give and bequeath all the said household goods furniture plate linen and china unto and equally between my two Daughters Emma the Wife of John Bassett of Brighton aforesaid Grocer and Angelina Pullinger Spinster to and for their own use and benefit absolutely as tenants in common And I hereby direct and declare that in case any dispute shall arise between my said Daughters as to the value or the division of the property comprised in the preceding bequest between my said Daughters my Executor hereinafter named shall have power absolutely to determine the same and I hereby authorize and empower my said Executor to divide and deliver the same to my said Daughters accordingly And I give and devise unto my son Colin Pullinger All that my copyhold messuage or tenement and workshops with the appurtenances thereto belonging situate in Selsey Street and holden of the Manor of Selsey and adjoining a freehold Timber Yard belonging thereto and now in the occupation of James Butcher To hold the same with the appurtenances unto and to the use of my said son Colin Pullinger his heirs and assigns absolutely and for ever I give and devise unto my said Wife Amy Pullinger All the rest residue and remainder of any messuages tenements lands hereditaments and premises as well freehold and copyhold as leasehold with their and every of their rights members and appurtenances And also all my ready money and securities for money and all other my real and personal Estate Property and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or description soever the same may be which I shall be seized possessed of interested in or entitled unto at the time of my decease ( and not hereinbefore otherwise disposed of) To hold the same and every part and parcel thereof unto and to the use of my said Wife and her assigns according to the nature tenure and quality thereof respectively for and during the term of her natural life and from and immediately after the decease of my said Wife I give and devise unto my Son James Pullinger All those my two copyhold messuages or tenements with the appurtenances thereto belonging situate in a certain Lane called Cotland Lane in Selsey aforesaid and holden of the said Manor of Selsey and now in the several occupations of Mant and Wiltshire or their respective undertenants and assigns And also all that my copyhold piece of land with the appurtenances called a sitting situate in Cotland Lane aforesaid and also holden of the said Manor of Selsey in the occupations of the said Mant and Wiltshire And also all that my copyhold messuage in two tenements with the appurtenances thereto belonging situate in Church Norton in Selsey aforesaid and holden of the said Manor of Selsey and now in the several occupations of William Cullmore and Thomas Cullmore To hold the said several messuages or tenements land hereditaments and premises with their and every of their rights members and appurtenances unto and to the use of my said Son James Pullinger his heirs and assigns for ever And from and immediately after the decease of my said Wife I give and devise unto my said Daughter Emma Bassett All those my two freehold messuages or tenements and premises with the respective appurtenances thereto belonging situate and being Nos 10 and 11 Gardner Street in Brighton aforesaid and now in the several tenures and occupations of the said John Bassett and ffrances Brayne Widow or their undertenants or assigns To hold the same unto and to the use of my said Daughter Emma Bassett her heirs and assigns absolutely and for ever And also from and immediately after the decease of my said Wife I give and devise unto my said Daughter Angelina Pullinger All that my freehold messuage or tenement and premises with the appurtenances situate in Cheapside in Brighton aforesaid and now in my own occupation And also all those my two leasehold messuages or tenements with the respective appurtenances thereto belonging situate in West Street in Chichester in the said County of Sussex held by me under a lease thereof granted by the Dean and Chapter of the Cathedral Church of Chichester and now in the several occupations of Joliffe and Pearson or their undertenants or assigns To hold the same unto and to the use of my said Daughter Angelina Pullinger and her heirs executors administrators and assigns according to the nature tenure and quality thereof respectively And as to all the rest residue and remainder of my ready money and securities for money and other my Personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever from and after the decease of my said Wife I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my Sons Colin Pullinger and James Pullinger and my said Daughter Emma Bassett and Angelina Bassett in equal shares and proportions and to their respective heirs executors administrators and assigns to and for their own absolute use and benefit I make constitute and appoint my said Wife and my said Son Colin Pullinger Executrix and Executor of this my Will And I hereby declare that my said Executrix and Executor shall not be answerable for each others or for involuntary losses and that they shall be allowed and may retain all their costs and expences to be incurred in the due execution of the trusts hereby in them reposed and that every person paying money to such Executors shall be exonerated from all liability in respect of the application thereof And I hereby revoke all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made In Witness whereof I the said William Pullinger the testator have to this my last Will and Testament contained in two sheets of paper to the first sheet thereof set my hand and to the second and last sheet my hand and seal the second day of October one thousand eight hundred and forty one William Pullinger
