On ye 31st day of March 1709 John Proud of Ellerbeck House in ye parish of Stokesley and in ye County of Yorks did declare his last will in words and purposes.  As followeth biddeth:-

I give to my sister Judith four pound, I give to John Sayer son of ye said Judith forty shillings, to Jane Sayer 10 shillings, to Mary Sigsworth 10 shillings, to Judith Sayer Junior 10 shillings, to James Sayer 10 shillings, to Jeremiah Sayer 10 shillings, to Thomas Sayer 10 shillings, to John Proud son of my brother Thomas Proud late deceased 5 pounds, to Jane Proud 5 pound, to Elizabeth Proud Junior 5 pounds, to Thomas Proud 5 pounds, to William Proud 5 pound, to Ann Proud 5 pounds, to James Proud ten pounds - to Dorothy Proud, to Mary Souter late wife of John Souter 5 shillings.  I give to my sister Elizabeth Clayton 10 shillings, to Joshua Clayton 20 shillings.  I give to Jane Pibuss 5 shillings, to William Sigsworth Junior, to John Sigsworth 5 shillings, to Jane Sigsworth 5 shillings.  And all ye best of my goods and chattels what soever I give to my wife upon condition ye should pay all my debts and legacies above mentioned.

Know whose names are hear unto submitted being present with John Proud deceased on ye 31st day of March 1709 did hear him declare his will to be as above witnessed and to bequeath all ye several legacies above mentioned to be paid by his wife.  Witness our hands this 6th day of April 1709.
