This is the last will and
testament of me ELIZABETH PORTER of no 14 Bermondsey New Road in the
County of Surry [sic] widow. I give and bequeath to my daughter
EMILY SARAH the wife of HENRY JAMES EDWARDS for her absolute use all
my household furniture plate linen china wearing apparel Jewellry
and trinkets except the articles hereinafter particularly mentioned
and bequeathed to other persons.
I give and bequeath to my son
GEORGE PORTER for his own absolute use my model of a boat framed and
glazed a drawing of the cadets Barracks at Woolwich a drawing of a
boatman and two smaller scripture pieces my cash box and a Tortoise
Shell Cabinet.
I give and bequeath to my six
Granchildren next hereinafter named being the sons and daughters of
my said son GEORGE PORTER the legacies following that is to say to
ELLEN PORTER and MARY FANNY PORTER the sum of £50 each To GEORGE
PORTER the younger the sum of £40. To SABINA PORTER and ALFRED
PORTER the sum of £20 each and to SYDNEY PORTER the sum of £10 which
said several legacies I will and direct shall be vested interests in
and be paid to my said Granchildren respectively on such of them
being a son or sons attaining the age of 21 years and on such of
them being a daughter or daughters attaining that age or day of
marriage whichever shall first happen and that in the mean time
until the said legacies shall respectively become payable the same
several legacies shall be invested by my Executor hereafter named in
the public funds of Great Britain in his name ... provided always
and I do will and direct that in case any one or more of my said
Grandchildren shall depart this life without acquiring such vested
interests .. then the legacy or legacies so bequeathed to him her or
them .... shall go to the other or others of my said surviving
Grandchildren to be divided between and among them ... in equal
shares ...
I give and bequeath to
ELIZABETH PEVERELL EDWARDS the child of my said daughter EMILY SARAH
EDWARDS the sum of £50 to together with such accumulations as next
hereafter mentioned a vested interest and to be paid unto her my
said last ?..? named Grandchild on her attaining the age of 21 years
or day of marriage which ever shall first happen and which sum I
direct shall be invested by my said Executor in his name in Public
Funds of Great Britain .... in case my Grandchild ELIZABETH PEVERELL
EDWARDS should die in the lifetime of her said Mother EMILY SARAH
EDWARDS without attaining such vested interests .... then I give and
bequeath the said last mentioned sum of £50 and the stocks funds and
securities ... and all accumulations thereof unto my said daughter
EMILY SARAH EDWARDS for her own sole separate and absolute use free
fro the debts control orengagements of her present or any future
husband .... But in case neither my said daughter EMILY SARAH
EDWARDS nor her said daughter ELIZABETH PEVERELL EDWARDS shall live
to become entitled to receive the said last mentioned legacy ... I
di give and bequeath the same to all and every the present and
future children of my said son GEORGE PORTER who may be living at
the time of my decease ..
I give and bequeath to my said
son GEORGE PORTER his executors and administrators the sum of £350
upon Trust to invest the same in his name in the Parliamentary
Stocks or Public Funds of great Britain .... Upon Trust to pay the
dividends and annual produce .... into the proper hands of my said
daughter EMILY SARAH EDWARDS ... during her life natural ... and
after the decease of my said daughter I will and direct that the
said trust funds and securities and all dividends and accumulations
arising therefrom and after the decease of my said daughter .. shall
be in trust for and be vested interest in all and every the child
and children of my said daughter .... and if there be no child of my
said daughter who shall live to acquire such vested interest ...
then I will and direct that the said trust fund ... shall be in
trust for all and every the children of the said GEORGE PORTER now
born of hereafter to be born ... who may be living at the time of
the decease of the said EMILY SARAH EDWARDS ...
I do declare and direct that
during the minority of any child or children of the said EMILY SARAH
EDWARDS it shall be lawful for the said GEORGE PORTER ... to apply
the dividends and annual produce of the share or shares of all or
any of the Children of my said daughter ... for or towards the
maintenance and education apprenticeship or advancement in the world
of such child or children ... whilst under the age of 21 years.
I give and bequeath the said
HENRY JAMES EDWARDS the sum of £10 for mourning and my Silver watch
I give and bequeath unto my
servant ELIZABETH STAVELEY the sum of £10 if she be still living
with me at the time of my decease in that capacity and as to all the
rest and residue and remainder of my estate I give and bequeath the
same unto my said son GEORGE PORTER his executors and administrators
and assigns absolutely he or they paying thereout all my just debts
and funeral and testamentary expences and I hereby nominate and
appoint my said son GEORGE PORTER sole executor of this my Will and
I do hereby revoke all wills and testamentary disposicions made by
me at any time heretofore and I will and direct that my said
executors... shall be charged and chargeable only with such monies
as he or they respectively shall actually receive by virtue of the
trusts hereby reposed .....

ELIZABETH PORTER have signed my name with my own hand ... the 29th
March 1841
