This is the Last Will and Testament of me
WILLIAM PICKARD of Carlton in the Parish of Coverham in the County
of York yeoman 28 April 1859. I give and devise all my messuage
lands tenements and hereditaments in the township of Carlton save
and except the messuage or dwelling house in which I now reside with
rhe barn stable garden and appurtenances ... my close of land in ...
Gill Head and a half part of the Garth of land lying behind my
messuage ... hereinafter by me given and devised to my son JOHN
PICKARD absolutely, unto my wife ELIZABETH PICKARD for and during
the term of her natural life. And I direct and declare that the
provision heretofore by me made for my said wife shall be accepted
by her in lieu and full bar and satisfaction of her dower or thirds
... And I give and devise all that my messuage or dwelling housae in
Carlton in which I now reside with barn stable garden and
appurtenances ... also my close of land in the township of Carlton
called Gill head ... and half part of a garth behin my last
mentioned messuage and a close of land at Howdenside in the township
of Carlton now in two divisions ... unto the use of my said son JOHN
PICKARD .... and I give and devise all that my messuage or dwelling
house situate in Carlton lately occupied by THOMAS MASON with the
garden stable and appurtenances belonging also my close of land or
allotment situate in the township of Carlton heretofore part of
Carlton West Pasture ... also all the East half part or share of the
said Garth of land lying behind the messuage or dwelling house in
which I now reside unto and to the use of my son THOMAS PICKARD But
subject nevertheless to the life interest of my said wife ...
And I charge and make chargeable all the said
real estate by me given and devised to my said son THOMAS PICKARD
with the payment of the legacy or sum of £50 which I give and
bequeath unto my daughter MARY WARD And I direct that the said
legacies or sums of £350 shall be paid at the expiration of 6
calendar months next after the decease of my said wife ELIZABETH
PICKARD And I direct that the said garth of land lying behind my
said messuage or dwelling house in which I now reside shall be
divided into two equal half parts by a good and sufficient wall
fence running from north to south and that the expences of making
and forever thereafter repairing such wall shall be borne by my said
sons JOHN PICKARD and THOMAS PICKARD equally.
And I give and devise all that my messuage or
dwelling house situate in Carlton now occupied by JAMES WALKER with
the stable and appurtenances unto my two daughters MARGARET PICKARD
and ELIZABETH PICKARD .... for ever but subject to the life interest
of my said wife.
And I give and devise all that my messuage or
dwelling house situate in Carlton in the occupation of ELIZABETH
METCALFE unto my said daughter ELLEN PICKARD but subject to the life
interest of my said wife.
I give and bequeath all my cattle horses sheep
and livestock now being in and upon the farm land and premises at
Spennithorne upon which my said son FRANCIS PICKARD and my said
daughter ELIZABETH PICKARD and ELLEN PICKARD now reside unto my said
son FRANCIS PICKARD absolutely. I give my household furniture and
farming and dairy utensils now in the dwelling house at Spennithorne
unto my said two daughters ELIZABETH PICKARD and ELLEN PICKARD share
and share alike. All the rest residue and remainder or my personal
estate I give and bequeath unto my said wife ELIZABETH PICKARD
absolutely charged and chargeable with the payments of all my debts
funeral and testamentary expenses. I give and bequeath my ?term? and
interest in the said Farm lands and premises at Spennithorne unto my
said son FRANCIS PICKARD absolutely my said son FRANCIS PICKARD
paying the rent henceforth ...
And I appoint my said wife ELIZABETH PICKARD
and my son JOHN PICKARD Executrix and Executor of this my will And I
direct that my said Executrix and Executor shall now be liable for
involuntary losses. And that they each of them shall be entitled out
of the said residuary personal estate to all costs and charges and
expences which they shall respectively incur or be at in carrying
into effect this my last will and revoking all former wills by me
made I declare this Instument in writing to be my Last Will and
Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal
the day and year first written above.
