Know all men by these
presents that we Richard
Pedder of Preston, linen
draper and Peter
Hodgkinson of the same
place, butcher, both in
the county of Lancaster,
are holden, and firmly
bound unto the Right
Reverend Father in God,
Samuel, by divine
permission, Lord Bishop
of Chester, in sixteen
hundred pounds of good
and lawful money of
Great Britain, to be
paid to the said Right
Reverend Father or to
his certain attorney,
his executors,
administrators or
assigns; to which
payment, well and truly
made, we bind ourselves,
and each of us, our
heirs, executors, and
administrators firmly by
these presents, sealed
with our seals, dated
the fourth day of
February in the year of
our Lord one thousand
seven hundred and fifty.
The condition of this
obligation is such, that
if the above bounden
Richard Pedder and peter
Hodgkinson, executors of
the last will and
testament of Ellen
Pedder, late of Preston
in the county of
Lancaster and
archdeaconry of
Richmond, widow,
deceased, shall and do
well and truly execute
and perform the last
will and testament of
the said Ellen Pedder,
late deceased, and do
pay all her debts and
legacies, so far as her
goods and personal
estate will extend, and
the law shall bind them
if also they do exhibit
into court a true and
perfect inventory of the
said deceased’s goods
and personal estate, and
give a true and just
account of their acting
in theses premises, when
they shall be thereunto
lawfully called; that
then this obligation to
be void, or else in
force.

I, Ellen Pedder of
Preston in the county of
Lancaster, widow, being
of sound and disposing
mind, memory and
understanding do for the
settling my ??? make,
publish and ordain this
to be my last will and
testament as follows
And first I will that
all my just debts,
funeral expenses and the
charges of the probate
of this my will be paid
and discharged for the
rest of my personal
estate, and I do hereby
give, devise and
bequeath unto my
grandson James
Hodgkinson, son of John
Hodgkinson, the sum of
sixty pounds and
interest due to me on
the mortgage from John
Barker of Preston
aforesaid, and I do
hereby direct my
executors to assign ???
the same to him
accordingly
And whereas I hold a
close of ground in
Preston by a lease for
lives under the late Mr.
Fleetwood, now I do
hereby give, devise and
bequeath the same unto
my daughter Ellen, wife
of the said Peter
Hodgkinson, for and
during the term of her
natural life and after
her decease I give,
devise and bequeath the
same to my executors
hereafter named upon
trust that they raise by
the yearly profits
thereof the sum of
twenty pounds and the
same pay to Peter, son
of the said Peter
Hodgkinson, and then I
give, devise and
bequeath the same close
of ground unto Philip,
another son of the said
Peter Hodgkinson during
my whole term, title and
interest therein
I
give, devise and
bequeath all that my
cottage or dwelling
house in Preston which I
hold by lease under the
Vicar of Preston unto my
grandson Bartholomew,
son of my late son Peter
Pedder, during my whole
term, title and interest
therein
And I do hereby give,
devise and bequeath unto
my son Richard Pedder
the sum of one hundred
and forty pounds and to
each of his four
children the sum of
twenty pounds apiece
To
Robert, Jane and Thomas
Pedder and the four
youngest children of my
late son Paul Pedder the
sum of twenty pounds
apiece
To
Philip and Peter, sons
of my said late son
Peter Pedder the sum of
one hundred pounds

power to advance and pay
