The Will of James Pearson

 

In the Name of God Amen I JAMES PEARSON of Woodall in Coverdale in the parish of Coverham and County of York yeoman being weak of God but of sound and perfect mind and memory praised be God for the same do make and ordaine this my Last will and Testament in manner and form following. First I commend my soul into the hands of Allmighty God And my body I order to be decently interred according to the Discretion of my Executrix  hereafter nominated And as touching my Temporal Estate I do dispose of the same as followeth first I will that all my just debts legacies and funeral expences saving what I hereafter order to be paid out of my lands shall be paid by my said Executrix hereafter named I give unto CHRISTOPHER COULTON my grandson £20 Also I give unto MARY COULTON my Grand daughter £40 both which last mentioned legacies its in my mind shall be paid by my said Executrix hereafter named at the End of twelve months next after my decease. Also I give unto my Grand daughter PHEBE COULTON £20 to be paid to her by my said Executrix hereinafter named when she shall attaine the age of 21 years Also I give unto my Loving Wife GRACE PEARSON my Firehouse during her life and halfe of all my household goods Also I give devise and bequeath unto my Grand son HENRY HORNER of the said Woodaill and his heirs for ever All my houses lands Meadows Pasture ground garths gardens Inclosures And all my whole estate of lands which I have at the said Woodall in Coverdale Except and saving to my said Loveing wife the firehouse and parcel thereof during her Life yet Nevertheless upon Condition of my said Grandson HENRY HORNER or heirs paying out of the same such sum or sums of money as is hereafter set down to be paid that is to say my Will and mind is that my said Grand son HENRY HORNER or his heirs shall yearly pay unto my Loveing wife GRACE PEARSON £4 yearly during the term of her Natural Life to be paid to her at two payments in Every year as abovesaid that is to Say £2 thereof on the first day of May and £2 remainder thereof on 11 November yearly the first payment to be on the first of the days abovesaid that shall next happen after my decease. Also I order my said Grand son HENRY HORNER or his heirs to pay in consideration of the said estate above devised to him and his heirs unto my Daughter AGNES COULTON of Starbotton after the decease of my said loving wife GRACE PEARSON £2 yearly until that £50 shall be paid to her my said daughter AGNES COULTON provided she so long live but if it happen that my said daughter AGNES COULTON shall dye before the said £50 shall all be paid my will And mind is that my said Grandson HENRY HORNER or his heirs shall pay the remainder of the said £50 that shall remain at her decease to her Children as she my said Daughter AGNES COULTON shall order before her decease. Also all the Rest of my personal Estate Goods and Chattels of what Kind soever I do hereby give unto my said Daughter AGNES COULTON whom I do hereby Constitute and appoint sole Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 13 July 1736
