I John Panchen the Elder of Bridport, in the
county of Dorset, Twinespinner, do hereby revoke and make void all
former Wills by me at any time heretofore made, and make and ordain
this my last Will and Testament in manner following:
That is to say, first I give, devise and bequeath unto me dear and
loving wife all my Messuages, Lands, Tenements and Hereditaments
situate and lying in Bridport aforesaid or elsewhere in the said
County of Dorset, and also the use and occupation of all my Goods,
Chattels and Personal Estate for and during so long time as she
shall be and remain my Widow after my decease, and from and after
the determination of such her widowhood or her death, whichever
shall first happen, I give, devise and bequeath the same Premises as
followeth:
That is to say, I give and devise unto my eldest son Giles Panchen,
his heirs and assigns all that the East side of my Messuage or
Dwelling House in Bridport aforesaid, now or late in the possession
of Margaret (Bun?, name difficult to read) with the West side of the
Spinningway for four persons, with two rows of Apple Trees thereto
belonging and the use of the Well, Entry and Court in common.
Also I give and devise into my daughter Joan, her heirs and assigns,
all that the West side of the aforesaid Messuage or Dwelling House
with the Eastern Spinningway with the Hedge and row of Apple Trees
in the hedge belonging thereto, and the Woodhouse at the higher end
of the Spinningway thereunto belonging, with the use of the Well,
Entry and Court in common.
Also, I give and devise unto my said daughter Joan Panchen, her
heirs and assigns, all my Messuages or Dwelling Houses in Bridport
aforesaid, now or late in the possession of Catherine Damett with
the Hedge and Apple Trees therein and the Woodhouse, Workhouse,
Spinninghouse and the Spinningway belonging to the same Dwelling
Houses with the use of the Well, Entry and Court in common.
Also, I give and devise unto my said son Giles, his heirs and
assigns, all that my Messuage or Dwelling House in Bridport
aforesaid, now or late in the possession of Matthias Balson with the
Woodhouse, Spinninghouse, Workhouse, Woodchamber over the higher
end, and Spinningway to the same belonging, with two rows of Apple
Trees belonging to the same, with the use of the Well, Entry and
Court in common. And it is my will that the said last respective
Messuages or Dwelling Houses and Premises by me last before given or
devised unto my said son Giles and daughter Joan and their heirs as
aforesaid shall stand and be charged with the payment of the several
sums of thirty pounds apiece for and towards the payment and
satisfaction of a mortgage or debt of one hundred and twenty pounds
now due and owing from me unto Mr John Coppock of Bridport aforesaid
sureholder, in case the same shall not be paid or satisfied by me in
my lifetime.
Also, I give and devise my garden belonging to the aforesaid
Premises unto my son Giles and daughter Joan their heirs and assigns
equally to be divided between them share and share alike.
Also, I give and devise unto my daughter Elizabeth Hewlett, her
heirs and assigns, all that my Messuage or Dwelling House in
Bridport aforesaid, now or late in the possession of Elizabeth Webb,
widow, with the Little House at the back door, and the row of Apple
Trees, Spinninghouse, Spinningway, Woodhouse and Workhouse belonging
to the same, and one half of the Garden with the use of the Well,
Entry and court in common with my son John.
Also, I give and devise unto my son John Panchen, his heirs and
assigns, all my Messuage or Tenament and Dwelling House in Bridport
aforesaid called the Schoolhouse and the House adjoining, now in my
possession, with the row of Apple Trees, Spinningway, Spinninghouse
and Woodhouse to the same belonging, with the other half of my said
Garden and the use of the Well, Entry and Court in common with my
said daughter Elizabeth.
And it is also my Will that the said last mentioned Messuages or
Dwelling Houses and Premises by me herein before given or devised
unto my daughter Elizabeth and son John and their heirs as aforesaid
shall and be charged and chargeable with the payment of the several
sums of thirty pounds apiece for and towards the payment and
satisfaction of the said debt or mortgage unto the said John Coppock
as aforesaid.
Also, all the rest and residue of my Goods, Chattels and Personal
Estate I give and bequeath unto all and every my said children
equally to be divided between them share and share alike.
And I do hereby constitute and appoint my said wife Joan sole
Executrix of this my Will. In Witness whereof, I the said John
Panchen the Testator have to this my Will set my Hand and Seal the
eighth day of January one thousand seven hundred and sixty. John

Signed, Sealed, published and declared by the said John Panchen the
Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of
us who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each
other have subscribed our names as Witnesses hereto.

On the fourteenth day of September in the year of our Lord one
thousand seven hundred and sixty four Administration with the Will
annexed of the Goods, Chattels and Credits of John Panchen late of
Bridport in the County of Dorset was granted to Giles Panchen the
natural and lawful son and one of the residuary Legatees named in
the said Will of the said Deceased, he having first been sworn duly
to administer. Joan Panchen the wife of the said deceased and sole
Executrix named in the said Will dying in the lifetime of the said
Testator.
