The Will of Lettice Norton

In the name of
God Amen The one and Twentieth day
of Januarie in the yeare of our Lord
God 1637 and in the thirteenth yeare
of our Soveraigne Lord King Charles
I Lettice Norton of Barnes in the
Countie of Surry Widdow being in
good and perfect memorie thankes be
to God doe make and Declare this my
last will and Testament in manner
and forme following ffirst I comend
my Soule into the hands of Almightie
God my maker and unto Jesus Christ
my Redeemer by whose death I doe
assure myself to have forgiveness of
all my sinnes and to inherit ever
lasting life And I will my bodie to
be buried in the Chauncell of Offley
in the Countie of Hants where my
husband was buried in that decent
manner as my executor hereafter
named shall thinke fitt And as
touching such goods and chattels as
it hath pleased God to blesse me
withal I doe thus dispose of them as
followeth I devise and give unto
Thomas Norton my youngest sonne the
some of ffyftie pounds of good and
lawfull money of England which I
lent him since the death of his
father for the payment of such money
I procured him to be bound unto
Susan Norton his sister then
unmarried the bond was taken in
trust for mee now my will and minde
is shalbe redelivered unto him after
my death And doe further give and
devise unto my said sonne Thomas
fortie pounds of good and lawfull
money of England to be payde unto
him within half a yeare after my
death And I doe alsoe give unto
Graveley Norton my Grandchild sonne
of my sonne Thomas tenn pounds to be
payed unto his father for him my
will and minde is that his father
shall put out for him the money
shalbe payed within halfe a yeare
after my death And I doe hereby
devise and give unto my sonne
Gravely Norton all my goods and
househould stuffe nowe remayning in
his house at Sharpenhoe in the
Countie of Bedford I doe further
give unto Mathewe Coppen my daughter
my white Chest that hath three locks
uppon it and all that is in it And
alsoe I doe give unto her my best
Gowne and Petticote I doe further
devise and give unto Lettice Norton
my Daughter wife of Richard Norton
and unto Elizabeth Lendall my
daughter and to the aforesaid Mathew
Coppen my daughter the Wife of
Thomas Coppen and unto Susan
Barnards my Daughter and unto
Talbott Rotheram my daughter wife of
Thomas Rotheram to every of them ten
pounds of good and Lawfull money of
England to every of them tenn pounds
a peece which said somes of money
soe devised unto my sonnes and
Daughters as is aforesaid shalbe
payed unto them the next daye after
my death to buy them mourneing
Gownes yf they please I doe hereby
further devise unto Beniamin Norton
my second sonne my Lease of my house
in Barnes aforesaid where I doe nowe
dwell and all the lands thereunto
belonging for all the yeares that
are yet to come And I do alsoe
devise and give unto him the said
Beniamin Norton my two Coach
Gueldings and my Coach And I alsoe
give and bequeath to my said sonne
Beniamin Norton all my silver plate
not formerly devised by my husband
in his will The rest of all my goods
and household stuff not formerly
given this my will I will and devise
them unto Beniamin Norton and Thomas
Norton my sonnes and unto Lettice
Norton Elizabeth Lendall Susann
Barnards and unto Mathew Coppen and
unto Talbot Rotheram my Daughters
equally to be divided between them I
doe further give unto T.... Love my
kinswoman tenn pounds of good and
lawfull money of England to be payed
to them within half a yeare after my
death I doe also devise unto Lettice
Laughence my Grandchilde twentie
nobles of lawfull money of England
to be payed the next day after my
death to buy her a mourning Gowne yf
shee please And of this my last will
and Testament I make and ordaine
Beniamin Norton my sole and onely
executor not doubting but that my
sayd sonne Beniamin will faithfully
and carefully performe this my last
will and Testament In wittness of
this my last will and testament I
have hereunto sett my hand and seale
