The Will of James Newsam

 

This is the last will and testament of me JAMES NEWSAM of Richmond in the County of York gentleman made the 12 August 1797. I give to my wife all my household goods furniture plate linen and all such goods chattells and effect as shall be in and about my dwelling house and the outhouses and offices thereto belonging situate in Richmond at the time of my decease together with the sum of one hundred guineas to be paid her by my executor out of my personal estate immediately after my death. I give and devise my messuage or dwelling house with the outhouses offices yard garden seat in the church and other appurtenances and all my lands and real estate situate at Richmond and also all that my messuage tenement and farm land and grounds thereunto belonging at Dunsa Bank in the parish of Kirkby Ravensworth unto my said wife with her assigns for and during the term of her natural life and I do will and direct that the provision hereby made for my wife shall be in lieu and satisfaction of her dower or thirds ... and from and immediately after her deceased I give my said messuage and lands at Richmond unto and to the use of my son WILLIAM NEWSAM and my daughter BETTY NEWSAM and their respective children.... and as to my messuage and land situate at Dunsay [sic] Bank ... I give to my son WILLIAM NEWSAM. I give to my sister MARGARET WATSON one annuity of £10 for and during her life to be paid half yearly on the 12th May and 22nd November .... to my daughter BETTY NEWSAM £10,000 to be paid to her by a transfer of such of my securities for money that amount with all the interest which happen to be due thereof at the time of my death. I give all my residue to my son WILLIAM NEWSAM and make him sole executor.
