In the name of god Amen
the first day of June
and in the yeare of our
Lord god (1608) I Thomas
Newport of Barrow in the
Countie of Chester
husbandman sicke in
body, but in good and
perfect remembrance (thankes
be to god for the same)
make this my testament
and in that I do
containe my last will in
maner and forme
following:
First I give and comend
my soule into the hands
of almightie god and my
bodie to be buried in
the Churchyarde of
Tarvinne at the
discretion of myne
Executors herafter to be
named. Item my will is
that my debtes and all
my funeral expenses
shalbe discharged of my
goods, and if my debtes
doe not amount to a
greater sum they will
discharge then my will
is that so much of my
land shalbe solld to
discharge the rest of my
debtes. And my will is
that after that my
debtes and funeral
expenses are discharged
that my wife shall have
both my house and all my
lands during her
widowhood to bring uppe
my children. Item I give
and bequeath unto Peter
Newport my son five
pounds Item I give and
bequeath to John Newport
my son five pounds Item
I give and bequeath unto
Margaret Newport five
pounds Item I give and
bequeath unto Anne
Newport five pounds All
such said sumes my will
is that Thomas Newport
my eldest sonne shall
pay out of my lands,
when hee shall have and
injoye the said lands,
within four yeares after
he shalbe in full
possession of the same
in maner and forme as
following viz. The first
yeare he shall pay five
pounds to Margaret my
daughter, the second
yeare five pounds to
Anne, the third yeare
five pounds to Peter,
the fourth yeare five
pounds to John Newport
my youngest son And if
my sonne Thomas shall
refuse to pay these
sumes of money or any
part of them to his
brothers or sisters,
then my will is that
they shall have all my
lands to their owne
proper use untill such
tyme as they shall make
twentie pounds of it to
be equally devyded among
them, accordinge to my
will. Item my will is,
and I also give and
bequeath unto Thomas my
son after that my debtes,
legacees and funerall
expenses bee discharged
on bay and halfe a bay
of a barne and all my
lands. And if he dye
without issue, then I
also give and bequeath
to Peter Newport my
second sone my said
barne and my lands and
if he dye without issue,
then I give it to John
Newport my third sonne
and if he dye without
issue then I give it
Margaret my daughter,
and if she dye without
issue then I give it
Anne Newport my
daughter, and if all my
children doo dye, and
leave noe child or
children behynde them,
then I give and bequeath
my barne and lands to
Peter Lightfoote and his
heires for ever. Item I
give and bequeath unto
Thomas my sone one
Cubboarde, one boarde
with a frame one brasse
potte, and all the
wainscoat in the house
Lastlie I constitute,
ordain and make Katherin
my wife and Peter
Lightfoote my kinsman my
true and lawfull
executors to see this my
last will performed and
my whole trust is in
them.
In witness whereof I
the aforesaid Thomas
Newport to this my last
will have put my hand
and seale the day and
yeare first above
written, in the presence
of these persons
