The Will of Matthew Newport

This is the last Will and Testament of me Matthew Newport of Barrow in the County of Chester Yeoman. I give devise and bequeath the whole of my property Real and Personal to my son Thomas upon trust to allow my wife Ann the sole and absolute use and to receive and take the rents issues and profits thereof to and for her own use and benefit during her natural life. And after her decease upon trust that my said son shall find and provide for my son Samuel (an idiot) and my daughter Mary (so long as she shall remain unmarried) during their respective lives sufficient meat drink clothes and lodging. Nevertheless if my son Samuel should unfortunately go worse and it should be necessary for security to place him in an asylum, then I declare that there shall be no claim and my son Thomas shall not be liable, or the property hereby devised to him, for or in respect of charges for Samuel’s maintenance or support or otherwise. And lastly I appoint my said wife Ann and my said son Thomas Executrix and Executor of this my Will on Witness thereof I have here unto set my hand this twelfth day of January 1853
