Will made 31 Jan 1798
In the name of God Amen, I Thomas Moor of Softley in the parish of Knarsdale
and County of Northumberland, Yeoman, being of sound perfect mind memory and
understanding do make and publish this to be my last will and testament in
manner and form following ( that is to say) First I order and direct my
executor here in after named and appointed to inter my body in the earth in
a decent and customary manner. I give devise and bequeath unto my daughter
Elizabeth Parker wife of William Parker of Knowhead the sum of thirty
pounds. Also to my son Joseph Moor of Eals the sum of thirty pounds. Also to
my son Nicholas Moor the sum of forty pounds. Also to my daughter Mary Todd
wife of John Todd of Bogg the sum of thirty pounds. Also to my daughter
Sarah Cowing wife of George Cowing of Hole House the sum of thirty
pounds_and also to the three daughters of my son Thomas Moor deceased (that
is to say) Mary Lee wife of Joseph Lee of Stoney Hill in this parish of
Allendale, Elizabeth Moor and Ann Moor the sums of ten pounds each all which
said ser?? legacies herein before mentioned. I order to be respectively paid
at the expiration of twelve calendar months next after my decease by my
executor hereinafter named and appointed. I also give devise and bequeath
unto my daughter Ann, the wife of Francis Baxter of Knarsdale Hall the
yearly annuity or sum of thirty shillings, being the interest of thirty
pounds for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease I
do hereby devise and bequeath the said sum of thirty pounds to my said son
Nicholas Moor or the spouse of his body lawfully to be begotten. I also give
devise and bequeath unto the sons and daughters of my late son John Moor of
Barns deceased (that is to say) Thomas, John, Mary, Jane and Elizabeth the
sum of seven pounds each to be paid by my executor when and as soon as they
shall respectively attain the age of sixteen years. But if it should happen
that any of them should die before they should arrive at age, as aforesaid
then the part or share of him, her or them so dying shall be equally divided
to an amongst the other or others of them share and share alike. I also give
and bequeath unto my said daughter Mary Todd my prets, brass kettle,
bedstead, bed, clothes and other the hangings there unto belonging to be
delivered to her immediately after my decease. And I do hereby make charge
able all my personal estate and effects whatsoever and whosesoever and of
what nature, kind or quality soever within the payment of the said annuity
and several legacies herein before mentioned and also with the payment of my
just debts and funeral expenses. And all the rest residue and remains
thereof I give and bequeath unto my son Joseph Moor of Softley aforesaid.
And I give do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my said son Jacob Moor
sole executor of this my last will and testament deducting to himself all
necessary? And reasonable expenses and charges occurred in the execution of
the trusts hereby in him reposed, hereby revoking and making null and void
all former wills by me at any time heretofore made and ratifying and
confirming this to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have
to this my last will and testament contained on one sheet of paper set and
subscribed my hand and seal in the presence of three witnesses, who in my
presence at my request and in the presence of each other have set and
subscribed their names as witnesses, our hands this Thirty First day of
January in the year of Our Lord One Thousand and Seven Hundred and Ninety
Eight.
