The Will of Joseph Moor

 

In the name of God Almighty I Joseph Moor of Eals in the Parish of Knarsdale and in the County of Northumberland, Yeoman being sick in body but of sound mind, memory and understanding do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First I hereby order and direct that my Executors here in after named and appointed shall pay all my just debts and funeral expenses. I give, devise and bequeath unto John parker of Lingey Close in the Parish of Lambley in the said County of Northumberland, Lead Ore Miner during the term of his Natural life, and the money that he stand indebted to me for rent and arrears of rent, upon bond and cash lent. He paying the interest there of unto my dear wife Mary during the term of her Natural life, and after his the said John Parker death such sum as in his hands as aforesaid shall go to his the said John Parkers Eldest son William, provided he do not get the Tenement of Land at Lingey Close, But, if he happen to get such Land, then such sum so due and owing by his said Father shall be equally divided to and among his other brothers and sisters share and share alike (without any share to himself). I give, devise and bequeath to my dear wife Mary all the household furniture in my Dwelling House of Eals aforesaid and the crop of corn and hay, and also my mare, two cows, one heifer, 10 ewes and 10 lambs, and the remaining stock of sheep I order my Executors here in after named and appointed to make a sale when they shall think convenient. I give, devise and bequeath unto Margaret Craig of Long Syke in the Parish of Haltwhistle and in the said County of Northumberland widow the sum of five pounds to be paid at the end of twelve calendar months next after my decease. I also give, devise and bequeath unto my brother Henry Moor of Knarsdale Hall in the said Parish of Knarsdale and in the said County of Northumberland the sum of One Hundred Pounds which I now stand indebted to him which he shall keep and retain in his hands in his capacity of Executor - And to all the rest, residue and remainder of my effects whatsoever and of what nature, kind and quality soever I give, devise and bequeath unto my illegitimate son Henry now living at Knarsdale Hall aforesaid with my brother Henry Moor when he shall arrive at the age of twenty one years, But if he shall happen to die before he arrive at such age without issue of his body lawfully begotten In such case I give unto the five children of my late brother John Moor of Barns Row in the said Parish of Knarsdale and in the said County of Northumberland the sum of thirty pounds each when they shall respectively arrive at he age of twenty one years. But if any of them should happen to die before they shall arrive at such age without lawfully issue of his, her or their body or bodies then the part or share of him, her or them so dying shall go to and be equally divided amongst the survivor or survivors. I do herby Nominate, constitute and appoint my dear wife Mary and my said brother Henry Moor joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament to deduct and retain to themselves all necessary and reasonable expenses hereby revoking all former wills by me at anytime heretofore made and satisfying and confirming this to be my last Will and Testament. In witness where of I have to this my last Will and Testament contained on one sheet of paper set and subscribed my hand and seal in the presence of these witnesses who in my presence at my request and in the presence of each other have set and subscribed their names as witness on this twenty sixth day of June in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and One.

On 17th August 1801 John Coulthard one of the subscribing witnesses to with in written will was sworn to the due executor there of by the Testator and Mary Moor and Henry Moor the Executors were sworn as usual.
