I Caroline Methold late of Park Place xxx
Park in the county of Middlesex but now of Verona Cottage in the
county of Herts wife of Henry Methold of Worthing in the county
of Sussex esquire only empowered by a certain Indenture dated
the thirtieth day of December one thousand eight hundred and
thirty four and made between my said husband Henry Methold me
the said Caroline Methold and a trustee nominated on my behalf
absolutely to dispose of my real and personal estate which I was
then possessed of or entitled to or which I might thereafter
purchase or which might be given devised or bequeathed to me for
my benefit or which I might otherwise acquire as if I were a xxx
sole and unmarried do in pursuance of such power make my will as
follows Whereas I have affected an insurance on my life in the
xxx Society for Insurance of Lives in xxx Fleet Street London
for the sum of three thousand pounds Now my will is that such
said sum with all accumulations thereon which may be due at my
decease be received

by my said trustees hereinafter named or
the survivor of them or the executors or administrators of such
survivor and that a competent part or sufficient part or portion
thereof be invested in the purchase of the Government funds of
Great Britain or some other satisfactory and sufficient real
security of one year annuity or yearly sum of one hundred pounds
to be paid half yearly to my niece Frances Clark now residing
with me but who for many years has always been called Augusta
Methold having been adopted by my husband the said Henry Methold
and myself as our child for her sole and separate use and not be
subject to the debts control or engagements by anticipation or
otherwise howsoever of any husband whom she may marry during the
term of her natural life And I direct that the receipt of the
said Augusta Methold alone notwithstanding any coverture shall
be a sufficient discharge to my said trustees from time to time
for the aforesaid annuity And I direct my said trustees or the
survivor of them or the executors or administrators of such
survivor to pay and apply the residue of such monies to be
received from the said Insurance as follows The interest and
dividends of one moiety thereof to be paid to my niece Caroline
Headley half yearly during her natural life for her sole and
separate use and not to be subject to the debts control or
engagements of any husband whom she may marry and after her
decease that the principal of such said one moiety be divided
amongst all and every the child and children of my said niece
Caroline Headley lawfully begot to share and share alike and to
be paid to them on their severally attaining the age of twenty
one years and if there shall be only one such child then the
whole to be paid to that one such child on his or her attaining
the said age of twenty one years And as respects the remaining
moiety of the principal of such said funds so to be received
from the said Insurance I will and bequeath the value unto my
nephew Frederick Clarke to be paid to him on his attaining the
age of twenty one years And my will further is that if my said
niece Caroline Headley shall have no such child as aforesaid who
shall live to attain the age of twenty one years then that the
aforesaid moiety of the principal of the said funds so
bequeathed to her as aforesaid shall be paid to my said nephew
Frederick Clarke his executors administrators and assigns
absolutely And my will further is that my said trustees or the
survivor of them or the executors or administrators of such
survivor do and shall sell and dispose of all my furniture china
and china ornaments which may be belonging to me at the time of
my decease (except my pianoforte) upon the most advantageous
terms that can be obtained for the same at the discretion of my
said Trustees and do and shall yearly pay and apply the surplus
money to be derived therefrom for the benefit of my said nephew
Frederick Clarke for his maintenance advancement and education
during his minority and after he shall have attained the age of
twenty one years then the whole of the proceeds of such
furniture and effects or such portion as shall not have been
applied for his advancement shall be paid to the said Frederick
Clarke absolutely And I authorise my said trustees if they deem
expedient so to do to appropriate a sufficient portion of the
proceeds of the said furniture to which my said nephew may be so
entitled as aforesaid in and towards the advancement in the
world of and in bringing up my said nephew Frederick Clarke to
some eligible profession or business during his minority I give
and bequeath my jewels watches rings trinkets plates goods
wearing apparel articles of dress and ornaments of person table
and bed linen (except my gold watch by Villancy with the snake
gold chain) unto my said nieces Frances Clarke and Caroline
Headley to be equally divided between them share and share alike
The gold watch and chain I give to my nephew Frederick Clarke I
give unto my niece Frances Clarke all my silver plate and my
pianoforte but if she should be dead previous to my decease then
I give the said plate and pianoforte to my said niece Caroline
Headley And I appoint my said

niece Frances Clark my sole executrix and
residuary legatee of this my will I desire my body may be
interred in a respectable private manner but as economical as
possible in the Kensall Green in the Harrow Road in the said
County of Middlesex I hereby nominate and appoint Archibald
Bulkeley of Panton Square in the County of Middlesex esquire and
George Harrison of Newport in the County of Monmouth esquire
trustees of this my will And I hereby revoke all former wills
and declare this alone to be my last will and testament Provided
always that in case either of the trustees hereby appointed or
to be appointed as hereinafter is mentioned shall die
discharging or be incompetent or unwilling to act in the
execution of the trusts of this my will it shall and may be
lawful to and for the surviving or continuing trustee or
trustees for the time being or for the executors or
administrators of the last deceased trustee from time to time as
often as there may be occasion by xxx in the presence of or
attested by one or more than one witness to appoint any person
or persons to supply the place of any present of future trustee
or trustees And I do hereby declare that upon every such
appointment the respective trust estates and funds shall be
conveyed assigned and transferred so as to vest the same jointly
in any new or old trustees or solely in the new trustees as
occasion shall require and every new trustee shall succeed to
the powers and duties of the trustee in whose place he shall be
appointed Provided also that the trustees hereby appointed and
to be appointed as aforesaid respectively and their respective
executors and administrators shall not be answerable for the
acts and receipts of each other nor for any loss or damage which
may happen in the execution of the aforesaid trusts respectively
without their own respective default and shall be at liberty to
deduct and retain out of the trust monies which shall come to
their hands all costs and expenses which they may incur or
sustain in the execution of the trusts reposed in them
respectively In witness whereof I the said Caroline Methold the
testatrix have to this my last will and testament contained in
four sheets of paper set my hand this twenty ninth day of May
one thousand eight hundred and fifty two Caroline Methold signed
and declared by the said Caroline Methold the testatrix as and
for her last will and testament in the presence of us both being
present at the same time who at her request and in her presence
and in the presence of each other have here unto subscribed our

Proved at London 14th October
1854 before the worshipful Samuel Tewkes xxx Doctor of Laws and
surrogate by the oath of Frances Clarke spinster the niece the
sole executrix named in the said will to whom admon was granted
Limited so far only as concerns all the right title and interest
of the deceased in and to all such personal estate and effects
as she the said deceased by virtue of a certain Indenture of
Separation bearing date the 30th September 1834 has a
right to appoint or dispose of and hath in and by her said will
appointed and disposed of accordingly but no further or
otherwise she having been first sworn duly to administer.
