The Will of John Matthews

In the Name of
God Amen I John Matthews of the
Parish of St Olave Southwark in the
County of Surry being in bodily
health and of sound and Disposing
Mind and Memory blessed be God for
the same, but calling to mind the
mortality of my body (do for
avoiding Controversies after my
Decease) make publish and Declare
this to be my last Will and
Testament (that is to say)
Principally and first of all I
recommend my Soul into the Hands of
Almighty God hoping to attain
Salvation through the Meritts of my
Saviour And my body I commit to the
Earth from whence it was taken,
hoping to receive the same again by
the Almighty Power of God And as
touching such Temporal Estate
wherewith I may be possest withal at
the time of my Decease (my ffuneral
charges and Expences being first
satisfied and paid thereout) I give
and bequeath the same as followeth
(that is to say) I give and bequeath
unto each of my Brothers and Sisters
that shall be living at the time of
my Decease the Sume of Two Shillings
and Sixpence apeice to buy them a
paire of Gloves All then and
Singular the residue and remainder
of my Estate consisting either in
ready money Rings Plate Household
Goods and Moveables Goods and
Chattells whatsoever that may or
shall Appertein or belong unto me at
the time of my Decease I give and
bequeath the same unto my loving
Wife Esther, moreover I do Nominate
and Appoint her full and Sole
Executrix of this my last Will and
Testament hereby revokeing all
former and other Wills and
Testaments and Deeds of Gifts
whatsoever by me at any time
heretofore made ordeining this and
no other to be and remaine for and
as my only last Will and Testament
In Witness Whereof I have hereunto
set my hand and Seal this ffifth Day
of June and in the ffourth yeare of
the Reigne of our Soveraigne Lord
George by the Grace of God of Great
Britain ffrance and Ireland King
Defender of the ffaith Anno Domini
