In the Name of God Amen I Mary Marissall now
residing at Redland Court in the Parish of Westbury upon Trim in the
County of Gloucester Widow being at Present in good Health of Body
and of sound and disposing mind and memory for which I bless God do
this seventeenth day of August in the Year of our Lord one Thousand
seven Hundred and forty nine make and ordain this my last Will and
Testament in manner following (that is to say) first I resign my
Soul and Body into the Hands of Almighty God who gave them me in a
sure and certain hope of their resurrection at the Last Day and my
Will and desire is that my Body (as soon as it hath resigned its
Breath) may be laid and soldered down in a Leaden Coffin and
inclosed in a Strong Oaken one and be interred in the Chappel Vault
at Redland aforesaid and other matters in relation to my ffuneral to
be at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named and as to my
Estate both real and personal whereof I am or may be possessed I
dispose thereof as followeth (that is to say) ffirst I give and
bequeath to my most valuable Sister Martha Cossins Wife of my
Brother John Cossins the Sum of five Hundred Pounds Item I give to
my Brother and Sister Marissall twenty pounds each Item I give to my
Sister Elizabeth Marissall twenty Pounds Item I give to my Sister
Elizabeth Marissall twenty Pounds Item I give to my Cousin William
Cossins and his three eldest Children twenty Pounds each Item I give
to my Cousin ffrances Sherley two Hundred Pounds two damask Table
Cloaths and two Dozen of Napkins my biggest silver Coffee Pott and
Silver Mugg and all my best wearing Apparell the residue of my
wearing Apparell to my Maid Servant that shall live with me at my
decease Item I give to my Cousin William Wyatt and his Daughter
Elizabeth twenty Pounds each Item I give and bequeath to my Nephew
Nicholas Marissall one Hundred Pounds my Gold Engraved Watch Hook
and Chain with all its Appurtenances my best Diamond Ring my
Mourning Ring for my late Husband Nicholas Marissall his Name being
thereon and all my Books Item I give to my Neice Anne Marissall ten
Guineas and my four Diamond Buckles Item I give to my Nephew John
Marissall ten Guineas a Mourning Ring with Jane Marissall thereon
and my Silver watch Item I give to Mr John Innys of London one
Hundred Pounds Item I give to Mr Jeremy Innys and his Wife Mrs
Elizabeth Innys Mr William Innys Mr John Innys Mr Slade Baker and
his Wife the Minister of the Parish of Westbury & the Officiating
Curates a Mourning Ring each Item I give to Mrs Sarah Cole Wife of
my late Servant David Cole the Sum of ten Pounds Item I give each of
my Brother John Cossins his Domestick Servants five Pounds Provided
I shall be a Resident at Redland aforesaid at the time of my decease
Item I give to my Maid Servant that shall be living with me at the
time of my Death twenty Pounds Item I give and bequeath the Sum of
one Hundred Pounds unto the Managers and Trustees of Saint
Bartholomews Hospital in London To and for the use and benefit of
the said Hospital and I will that the receipt of two or three such
mannagers or Trustees be a sufficient discharge to my Executor for
the same Item I give and bequeath the Sum of one Hundred Pounds unto
the Mannagers and Trustees of blew Cloak Hospital in Newgate Street
London To and for the use and benefit of the same Hospital and I
will that the receipt of two or three such Managers or Trustees be a
sufficient discharge to my Executor for the same Item I give and
bequeath the Sum of fifty Pounds to the Poor of the Parish of Christ
Church in Spitall ffields to be paid applied and disposed of to such
persons of the said Parish as have need of the same in such manner
as the Church Wardens and Vestry of the said Parish shall appoint
and direct and my Will is that the Receipt of the said Church
Wardens shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executor for the same
Item I give and bequeath to the Poor belonging to the ffrench Church
in Thread Needle Street London the sum of fifty Pounds to be paid
applied and disposed of to such Poor of the said Church as have need
of the same in such manner parts and Proportions as the Church
Wardens and vestry or Acting Persons of the said Church shall for
the time being appoint and direct and I will that the Receipt of
such Church Wardens or three of such Vestry or Acting Persons shall
be a good discharge to my Executor for the same Item I give and
bequeath to my Brother John Cossins twenty Pounds to be distributed
to such Poor People and in such manner as he shall think Proper Item
I give and bequeath to my said Brother John Cossins the sum of two
Thousand Pounds which I now have and am possessed of being in the
Exchequer bearing three and a half per cent and all my Leasehold
Estate at Great Coxwell in the County of Berks to have hold and
enjoy receive and take the Interest and produce of the said two
Thousand Pounds and the Rents and Profits of my said Leasehold
Estate at Great Coxwell for and during the Term of his Natural Life
but my Will is nevertheless and it shall and may be lawful to and
for the said John Cossins to call in and receive the said sum of two
Thousand Pounds and also to sell and dispose of the said Premises at
Great Coxwell aforesaid for the most he can get and either to place
out the same two Thousand Pounds and the Moneys arising by such ....
upon such securitys as he shall think fit or to lay out the same or
any part thereof in the purchase of any Messuages Lands Tenements or
Hereditaments upon Trusts to and for the uses intents and purposes
hereinafter mentioned (that is to say) that he the said John Cossins
and his Assigns shall have hold and enjoy and receive have and take
as well the Rents Issues and Profits of such Messuages Lands
Tenements or Hereditaments so to be purchased as aforesaid as the
Interest of the residue of the Money not so laid out in such
Purchase for and during the Term of his natural Life and from and
immediately after his decease I give and bequeath the said Messuages
Lands Tenements or Hereditaments and the Interest of the residue of
the Moneys not so laid out in purchasing as aforesaid to my said
Sister Martha Cossins for and during the Term of her natural Life
but in case there shall be no such purchase made nor sale of the
Premises At Great Coxwell aforesaid Then I give the Interest of the
said two Thousand Pounds and the Rents and Profits of the said
Premises at Great Coxwell aforesaid to my said Sister for and during
her Life and from and immediately after the Deaths or deceases of
them the said John Cossins and Martha Cossins I give devise the same
Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments to be purchased as
aforesaid to my said Nephew Nicholas Marissall his Heirs and assigns
for ever And also I give to my said Nephew Nicholas Marissall his
Executors Administrators and assigns for and during all my Interest
therein and all the rest and residue of my Personal Estate I give
and bequeath unto my Brother John Cossins and I hereby nominate
constitute and appoint the said John Cossins Executor of this my
Will and I hereby revoke and make void all former Wills by me made
declaring this to be my last Will and Testament And lastly my Will
is that my Executor herein after named shall not be charged or
chargeable with any Loss that may happen to my Estate and that he
shall reimburse himself all reasonable charges he shall be at in
executing the several Trusts hereby reposed in him In Witness
whereof I the said Mary Marissall have to this my last Will and
Testament contained in these three Sheets of Paper affixed together
to the first and second Sheets thereof set only my Hand and to the
third and last Sheet my hand and Seal the Day and Year above written
