I Phebe Mallatratt
of the City of York in the County of Yorkshire being of sound
mind do make constitute and appoint this my last Will and
Testament on this eleventh day of November in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty six revoking all
former wills by me made first I do will direct and appoint that
of the money or property belonging to me (which is placed in the
long annuities of the Bank of England) sixty pounds per annum
shall still remain there to pay the undernamed annuities and
that the remainder shall be sold out to pay the legacies and
expenses hereafter named and I so will and devise that the said
sixty pounds per annum be disposed of in the following manner
Item I give and bequeath
to my brother Jeremiah
Mallatratt now of the City of London
in the County of Middlesex the sum of five pounds per annum to
him and his heirs I do also give and bequeath to my sister
Susannah Dexter
widow now of the City of York the like sum of five pounds per
annum to her and her heirs I do also will and bequeath to my
niece Hannah Beresford
the wife of Samuel Beresford of Huntingdon in the County
of Huntingdon and daughter of my late sister
Mary Lamb of
Huntingdon aforesaid the sum of twenty pounds per annum to her
and her heirs I do also will and bequeath to
my nephew William Lamb
of Huntingdon in the County of Huntingdon the
oldest son of my sister Mary Lamb
aforesaid the sum of twenty pounds per annum to him and his
heirs I also give and bequeath to my
nephew Charles Lamb of Whitby in the
County of York the second son of my
said sister Mary Lamb and to
Harriott Cooper the wife of George Cooper
of London in the County of Middlesex and daughter of
my sister Mary Lamb
aforesaid to each of them five pounds per annum to them and
their heirs
Item I will and bequeath
to James Lamb
the youngest son of my sister Mary
Lamb the sum of five pounds five
shillings in good and lawfull money of Great Britain
Item I give and bequeath
to Mary Cooper widow of the late Christopher Cooper
of New Compton St London my plate consisting of two table spoons
seven tea spoons and a pair of sugar tongs
Item I give and bequeath
to Ann Davies widow of the late Peter Davies
Cabinet Maker of the City of York ten pounds of good and lawful
money of Great Britain to purchase a ring I also give and
bequeath to Ann Alderson wife of Christopher Alderson of
London and daughter to the aforesaid Ann Davies my pearl hoop
ring I also give and bequeath to Elizath Davies
daughter to the aforesaid Ann Davies the ring that is set
with an eye I also give and bequeath to Jane Clark
daughter to Margaret Barber of the City of York the ring
I had in remembrance of Mr ? Cooper the which is engraved with
his name I also give and bequeath to James Silburn? Barber
the son of James and Margaret Barber of the City of York
my little gold watch for a keepsake
Item I give and bequeath
to Elizabeth Maltby daughter of Elizabeth Maltby
widow late of Bath Place Peckham Surrey but now of Walnut Tree
Walk Lambeth all of the best of my clothes and lace with my
square black vail my white vail silk scarfs my pearl brooch and
all the remainder of my trinkets as also my glass china and
books the remainder of my clothes and linen I bequeath to
Hannah Beresford wife of Samuel Beresford
aforesaid and to Harriot the wife of George Cooper
aforesaid to be divided share and share alike as nearly as may
be and I hereby declare that I make constitute and appoint
James Barber Silversmith and Jeweller of the City of York
aforesaid and Thomas Sanderson Ironmonger of the
aforesaid City of York Executors to this my last Will and
Testament and I furthermore give and bequeath to the said
James Barber and Thomas Sanderson the sum of twenty
pounds each in consideration of their trouble in executing this
my last Will and Testament and furthermore it is my will and
request that should I die in York I may be buried in Saint
Saviour Gate Church Yard and that a plain ? monument may be
erected to my memory and it is my will and request that the
above named annuities be paid half yearly and that the first
payments and also the legacy be paid as soon as can be after my
decease and I furthermore will and devise that what money or
moneys I may have lying by me &c which shall remain

after the aforesaid
legacies and expenses shall be paid, shall be given to the York
County Hospital situated without Moat Bar in the City of York
and in case of the death of any of the above named annuitants or
legatees before or after my decease it is my will that the
annuities or legacys? so fallen shall be given to the aforesaid
York County Hospital to be vested in the hands of such trustees
as my Executors shall appoint I do hereby declare this to be my
true Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have set my hand
and seal this eleventh day of November in the year of our Lord

It is my Will and desire
and my earnest requests to my Executors (Mr Samuel Barber and Mr
Thos Sanderson) that those pieces of my own composing
(viz) “Thoughts on the Wisdom power and love of God in the works
of creation and redemption Hossain and Zelma a Tale the
Shipwreck a drama and several other little pieces may be put
into the hands of some literary character or characters and if
upon examination they be found worth printing that they may be
printed and published and that the profits arising therefrom may
be applied to charitable purposes (viz) either to the blue or
grey coat schools of the City of York or to the Benevolent
Society of the said City of York whichever my said Executors may
judge to be most in want of it to be vested in the hands of
trustees appointed by my Executors to receive and pay the same
and this I hereby declare to be my desire and request unto my
said Executors as witness my hand this thirteenth day of
November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
twenty six.

It is my Will and request
to my Executors (Mr James Barber Silversmith and Mr Thos
Sanderson Ironmonger of York in the County of York) that in
addition to the legacys named in my Will that ten pounds of good
and lawful money of Great Britain be paid to Mrs Margaret Barber
the wife of Mrs James Barber for a ring to keep for my sake and
also ten pounds for Mrs Mary Thackwray the wife of Mr Joseph
Thackwray of the Crown Hotel in Low Harrogate to purchase a ring
to keep for my sake In witness whereof I have put my hand and
seal this eleventh day of October in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and thirty Phebe Mallatratt

Jane Thompson the wife of Samuel Thompson of the City of York
Chymist and Thomas England of the same City Cheesemonger and
being sworn to depose the truth make oath and say that they know
and were well acquainted with Phebe Mallatratt late of the City
of York aforesaid spinster deceased and with her manner and
character of handwriting having seen her write and write and
subscribe her name that having looked upon and perused the paper
writing hereunto annexed purporting to be a Codicil to the last
Will and Testament of the said deceased beginning thus “It is my
Will and Desire” and ending “one thousand eight hundred and
twenty six” and this subscribed “Phebe Mallatratt” these
deponents jointly and severally to say that that they believe
the whole series and contents of the said Codicil and the name
Phebe Mallatratt thereto set and subscribed to be the proper
handwriting and subscription of the said Phebe Mallatratt
