The Will of Edward Madgwick

 

In the Name of God Amen I Edward Madgwick of Westhampnet in the County of Sussex Gent doe make and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) ffirst I bequeath my Soul into the hands of Almighty God believing remission of Sins and everlasting Life by the meritorious death and passion of Jesus Christ my Lord and only Saviour Item in pursuance of Provisoe contained in one Indenture Tripartite made the second day of April in the Sixth year of the reign of the late King William and Queen Mary between Sir Thomas Miller of the City of Chichester in the County aforesaid Kinight of the first part ffranccis Sone of Havant in the County of Southampton Tanner of the Second Part and me the said Edward Madgwick of Westhampnet in the said County of Sussex Gent and Anne my then Wife Henry Plaxton gent and Anne his Wife Edward Cole of the Parish of St Bartholomew neere the said City of Chichester and Alice his Wife and Christopher Nevill of the said City Gent of the third part I do by this my last Will and Testament in writing under my hand and seal express and declare that the uses of a ffine in the said Indenture mentioned of for and concerning the several lands and Tenements hereinafter specified to be lying and being in Northwood Stoughton Upmarden and Nutborne shall be altered and changed in such manner and form and for such uses and purposes as are thereof hereinafter limited and appointd (that is to say) I give and devise unto my son Edward and his heires for ever All that my Moiety of the Mannor and ffarm of St Clares in Nutborne in the said County of Sussex Subject and liable to the payment of an yearly rent of Twenty Pounds which I have before this time granted unto Edward my Son and John Crowther their heires in trust for Mary my Daughter Item I give unto my Son James One hundred Pounds to be paid him within two years after my decease if he be then living Item all the rest of my Goods and Chattles Lands and Tenements (after my debts and ffuneral expences first paid) I give and bequeath unto my said son Edward whom I nominate and appoint to be Executor of this my Will In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal the Nineteenth day of January in the year of our Lord One Thousand seaven hundred and Eleven   /Edward Madgwick/
