In the name of God Amen The 20th
day of Septemb’r 1672 And in the 22nd yeare of the
Raigne of Our sov’raigne Lord King Charles over England etc. I
John Lyon of Haddocke in the County of Lanc’r yeoman Beinge sick
& weake in Body but of sound & p’fecte memory (praise bee given
to God for the same) And Knowinge The uncertainty of This Life
on Earth \and Beinge desirous to settle Things in order doe make
This my Last Will & Testam’t in Manner & forme followinge That
is to say first & principally I Commend my soule To Almighty God
my Creator assuredly Beleivinge that I shall Receave full pardon
& free Remiss’on of All my sinnes And Bee saved BY The precious
death & Meritts of my Blessed Saviour & Redeemer Christ Jesus
And my Body to the Earth from whence it was Taken To Bee buried
in such decent & Christian manner as to my Ex’rs & frends
hearafter named shall bee Thought meete & Convenient And as
Touchinge such Worldly Estate as The Lord in mercy Hath Lent me
my Will & meaninge is the same shall Bee Imployed & Bestowed As
Hearafter BY This my Will is Expressed And first Doe revoke
renounce frustrate & make void All Wills By mee formerly made
and declared & appoynte this my Last Will & Testam’t And first
my Will & mind is That my debts funerall expences & the Chardg
of Addinge Tow Lifes to the Lease of Heyes Greene house to make
the same A p’fecte & Whole Lease forth & out of my Whole Goods
soe far as the same shall Bee first sattisfyed dischardginge of
the same shall Bee first sattisfyed discharged & paid But if my
said Goods shall fall short in doeinge & p’forminge as Aforsaid
That then my Will & Mind is That the rest & residue of my debts
& Chardge of Lease aforsaid shall Bee had Taken & Truly
dischardged & paid out of the issues & pr’fitts of my Whole
Reall esteate That is to say of & from one certayne Peece of
Land By mee Lately Purchased scituate & Beinge in Wavertree &
Likwise forth & out of Thee first issues & p’fitts of Heyes
Greene house & My unckle James Lowes as the same shall happen to
fall And after A full dischardge had & made as Aforsaid My Will
& mind is That my father have to his owne use one Ciled Bed w’th
fitt & Convenient furniture to it duringe his naturall Life Item
my Will & mynd is that the tow Cubbards in the house one frame
Board in the house & Tow Ciled Bedsteeds W’th All the pewter now
standinge & beinge of the Cubbards shall from This Tyme forward
continue & Remayne in the house as heire Loomes Item the rest &
residue of my Goods I Give & Bequeath unto Lydia my Wife And as
Touchinge & concerninge the disposall of my Real Estate My Will
& Mind is That Lydia my Wife after the Aforsaid uses fulfilled &
dischardged shall have & enioy my Whole Reall esteate untill my
Eldest sonne attayne the Age of 21 years for the educac’on
mentaynance & Bringinge up of my Children if shee soe Long shall
keepe her selfe sole Chaste & unmarryed Item Then my Will &
Mynd is And I doe herby Give Grante & assigne ov’r All my full
Power Esteate intreaste & Tytle of my Tow Tenem’ts in Haddocke
unto Richard my Eldest sonne to enter upon & enioy The Same when
hee shall soe Attayne his said Age The said Richard payinge &
dischardginge the some of one hundred pound to Mary my daughter
When shee shall Attayne the Age of 21 yeares Towards her p’con
Item my Will & Mynd is That if it please God that the Child now
Beinge in the womb of my said Wife happen to prove A sonne Then
I doe herby Give grant & confirme unto him his heires & assignes
my said land in Wavertree To enter upon such p’te & por’con as
shall remayne ov’r & Besides A certayne Joynture of Tenn pound
p......... settled and made by mee to & for the use of Lydia my
wife dureinge the Terme of her naturall Life When hee shall
attayne the Age of 2 yeares & rest therof att the decease of
Lydia his said mother Hee paynge & dischardginge of & from the
same the full & .................. Some of fifty Pound unto Mary
my daughter the one halfe when hee attaynes his said Age & the
other halfe att the decease of Lydia my Wife But if it happen
that the Child now in the Womb of my Said Wife happen to prove A
daughter That then my Whole Esteate & inheritance in Wavertree
shall discend & come unto Mary my said Eldest daughter
accordinge as is before expressed if the youngest had p’ved A
sonne And the sume & somes of money Chardged as aforsaid shall
goe to the onely use & Behoose of my youngest daughter to bee
paid unto her as was before men’coned to Mary And of This my
present Testam’t I ordayne & Make Lydia my Wife my True &
Lawfull Executor to execute & p’forme the same And I desire
Peter Gaskell & Robt Cash to bee ov’seers herof that the same
Bee Truly p’formed & to Asis my said Wife in the manageinge &
executinge of the uses & Trusts aforsaid accordinge to their
best knowledge & Judgm’t In Wittnesse wherof I have herunto put
