In the Name of Gof amen 17 November 1599
I HENRY LYNDLEY knight of Myddleham Castle being sicke in body but
of sounde and perfect remembrance do make this my last will and
testament in manner and forme following. First I give and bequeath
my soul into the Hand of God my maker and Redeemer trusting
assuredlie to be saved by the merittes and mercies of Christe and my
bodye to be buried in the church or chancell and Myddleham. For the
due ordering of my good First I give and bequeath unto JEROMIMA my
wife and lady all my ?p..tes and possessions of Middleham and the
Castle of Middleham with all my goodes moveable and unmoveable and
all the leases and possessions belonging of what kynde soever during
her life Witness hereof Sir Charles ?Wren? knight, Henry Pagett.
Memorandum that the sayd 17 November 1599 abowte one quartere of
houre after the making of the will above written the said HENRY
LYNDLEY being of perfect memorye did give and bequeath unto his
nephew EDWARD HOPPIE three score pounds by yere to be payed yerelie
to him out of ?Wood..uffe ? in the Countie of Kent during all the
tearme of his leases thereof which bequest was then in the life tyme
of the sayd HENRY LYNDLEY put in writing witnesses here Henry Pagett,
John Starkey. Memorandum also that the same daye about eleven of the
clock the said HENRY LYNDLEY being of perfect memory did give and
bequeath to his servant JOHN STARKEY the somme of £100 to be payed
out of the leases of rent which bequest was also then put in writing
witnesses thereof Thomas Holdsworth, John ? Hartley?, Richard
Taylor, and Lawrence Fishendon. memoriandum that the same day above
sayd a little after the bequest made to John Starkey as is above
written the sayde HENRY LYNDLEY beynge of perfect memory did give
unto JOHN COX his servant the Lodge in the west Parke of Middleham
and eight gates wynter and sommer in the sayd West parke during his
natural life and did also give him two cowes which bequest was also
then put in wrytinge witness thereof Thomas Holdsworth, John
Hartley, Richard Taylor. Memorandum also that on the same daye about
one of the clocke in the afternoone the sayde HENRY LYNDLEY beyng of
perfect memory did give unto WILLIAM GEORGE, LAWRENCE FISHENDEN and
THOMAS DENISON his servants to every of them fortie pounds and to
THOMAS DA....? twentie poundes which legacy he willed to be payed by
his lady and wife and the same bequests were then allso written in
his life tyme witness thereof William Blackett and Thomas Holdsworth.
Memorandum allso that the same daye a little after the premisses the
sayd Sir HENRY LYNDLEY beng of perfect memory did give unto his
sister Mrs STUBBES the somme of £50 witnesses thereof Thomas
Holdsworth, William Blackett, Hellen ?Carter? and others. Memorandum
allso that the same daye the sayd HENRY LYNDLEY beyng of perfect
memory did give to every one of his women servants £5 a peece
