The Will of Richard Lutman

 

In the Name of God Amen The Eighteenth day of December In the Seaven and Twentieth yeare of the Raigne of our most gratious Soveraigne Lord Charles the second by the grace of God King of England Scotland ffrance and Ireland Defender of the faith Anno Dm 1675 I Richard Lutman of Langley in the Parish of Rogate in the County of Sussex Gent being Sick in Body yet in perfect memory Thanks be unto God doe make and ordeine this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following Imprimis I bequeath my Soule into the hands of Almighty God my Maker trusting to be saved by the meritts of Jesus Christ my Redeemer and Saviour And my Body to be buryed in the Parish Church of Rogate aforesaid Item I give and bequeath unto Jane my loving wife the Sume of fforty Pounds by the yeare during her naturall Life to be paid by Quarterly payments by even and equall portions in full satisfaction of all her Dower or Thirds out of all or any of my Lands or Tenemts Also I give unto my said Wife the Sume of ffyfty Pownds To be paid unto her within Six monethes after my decease All which I give unto her upon Condition that shee my said Wife shall at the request of my Sonn Richard make seale and deliver unto him and his heires Such lawfull and sufficient Discharges or Releases of all her Dower right title claime and Demand whatsoever that shee can or may have to any of my Lands or Tenements aswell Leasehold and Copyhold as ffreehold as by Counsell Shall be advised Soe that at the Same time my said Sonn Richard his heires and assignes doe and shall also by good Assurance in the Law Settle and Secure unto my said Wife Jane the said Sume or Annuity of fforty Pownds by the yeare during her life as aforesaid out of Some Part of my Lands or Tenements that may be sufficient in value in such forme and manner also as by Counsell shall be advised And also pay ro secure unto her the said Sume of ffyfty Pownds Also I give unto my said Wife my best Bed and furniture thereunto belonging One Chest of Drawers Six Searge Chaires One great Chest now standing in the Chamber over the hall where I now lyve with Two paire of Sheets One paire of Blanketts and One Rugg Item I give unto my Sonn John Lutman One Hundred and ffyftie Pownds To be paid unto him within One Moneth after the end or expiration of his now Apprenticeshipp Item I give unto William Rutland the Sume of fforty Shillings To be paid him when he shall accomplish his age of......yeares Item I give and bequeath unto John Steere Sonn of Richard Steere of Langley the Sume of Six Pownds To be paid unto him when he shall accomplish the age of One and Twenty yeares Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Eames of Dundle in the Parish of Steepe The Sume of ffyve Pownds  To be paid unto him within One yeare after my decease Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Randall the Sonn of William Randall of ffuntington The Sume of ffyve Pownds To be paid unto him when he shall accomplish the age of One and Twenty yeares Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Lutman the Sonn of Charles Lutman of Iping in the County of Sussex the Sume of ffyve Pownds To be paid unto him when he shall accomplish the age of one and Twenty yeares I give unto Richard Parker Jane Parker Joane Parker Mary Parker Martha Parker Ann Parker Robert Parker Sarah Parker and John Parker the Sonnes and Daughters of Richard Parker of Havant The Sume of Twenty Shillings a peece To be paid unto them within Twelve Monethes after my decease Item I give unto the Poore of the Parish of Rogate ffyfty Shillings To be distributed by my Cosen William Steere All the rest of my Goods and Chattells I give unto my Sonn Richard Lutman whome I make and ordeine Sole Executor of this my last Will and TestamentItem I give and devise unto my said Sonn Richard Lutman All my Lands and Tenements that I hold Either in ffeeSimple or by Lease To hold to him and his heires Paying all my Debts and Legacyes out of the same And I desire John Chase of Gretham and  Richard Parker of Havant my loving freinds to be Overseers of this my last Will to see that the same be performed To whome I doe give Tenn Shillings a peece for theire paynes In Witness whereof I the said Richard Lutman the elder have hereunto sett my hand and Seale and published and declared this to be my last Will and Testament the day and year first above written The mark of the said Richard Lutman the elder   ffrancis Norris John Worlidge   Proved 10th January 1676   PCC Prob11/350
