The Will of John Luke

This is the last Will and Testament of me John Luke of Cheapside in the City of London and of Hedge Row Islington in the County of Middlesex Boot and Shoe maker which I do make publish and declare in manner following that is to say First I give and bequeath unto my Wife Elizabeth Luke all my household furniture plate linen and china both in and upon my houses in Hedge Row Islington and in Cheapside that I shall die possessed of for her own use and benefit I also give and bequeath unto my said Wife All that my leasehold house and premises situate and being No 30 Hedge Row Islington and all my Estate and Interest in the Lease thereof and all the Fixtures therein with the benefit of the Lease to the said house for her own use and benefit absolutely I also give and bequeath to my said wife the legacy and sum of four hundred and fifty pounds of lawful English money for her own use and benefit absolutely I give and bequeath unto my son John Luke All that my Leasehold messuage and house with all the Shop Trade and household fixtures therein and all my estate and interest in the lease thereof situate and being in Cheapside in the City of London and the goodwill of the trade and business to the said house for his own use and benefit upon condition that he my said son John Luke shall carry on the Trade and Business therein for the term of three years from my decease And also that he my said son John Luke shall and do pay and allow my said Wife out half of the share gains and profits of the said Trade and business by equal half yearly payments during the said term of three years towards the maintenance of my said wife and my other Children And I also give and bequeath unto my said son John Luke the legacy and sum of two hundred pounds for his own use and benefit And as to all the rest residue and remainder of my estate and effects of every description remaining after payment of all my just debts and funeral and testamentary expences I give and bequeath such residue unto and among my six children Samuel Luke Elizabeth Luke Mary Luke Jane Luke Edith Luke and Louisa Luke equally to be divided between them share and share alike for their own use and benefit to be paid to them at twenty one years of age and

I further will and declare that from and after my decease the rent and covenants contained in the Lease of my house and premises in Hedge Row Islington hereinbefore given and bequeathed to my said wife shall be paid and performed by my said wife and that the rent and covenants reserved and contained in the Lease of my house and premises in Cheapside hereinbefore given and bequeathed to my said son John Luke upon the conditions aforesaid shall from and after my decease be paid and performed by my said son John Luke (and I hereby nominate and appoint my said wife and my said son John Luke Executrix and Executor to this my will) And I hereby revoke all and every former Will and Wills by me heretofore made do declare this to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof

I have hereunto to this my last Will and Testament contained in two sheets of paper set my hand to the first sheet thereof and my hand and seal to the second and last sheet thereof this twenty sixth day of January one thousand eight hundred and twenty six John Luke
