The Will and Inventory of Thomas Lowe

 

In the name of god Amen the eigthteenth daye of maye in the fifteenth yeere of the Raigne of our most gracious sov’aigne Lorde Charles by  the grace of god Englande Scottlande france and Irelande kinge defender of the faith etc 1639  I Thomas Lowe of Headocke in the Countie of of Lancaster in the p’ish of winwicke and diaces of Chester beinge verie weeke in bodie butt in verie good and p’fect memorie praised be allmightie god doe ordaine and make this my last will and Testem’t in manner & forme followeinge first I give and bequeath my soule unto Allmightie god my onely maker and redeemer in whom is all my truste to be saved through the merritts of Chrites passion and my bodie to be interred in Christen buriall in my p’ish Churchyard in winwicke afforesaid ther to remaine in the bosome of the earth untill it shall pleasse my saviour and redeemer to raise it up againe w’th A bodie of Imortalitie,  And concerninge all such goodes and p’sonall estates god of his mercie hath bestowed upon me the same shalbe disposed as hearafter followeth,  And first it is my will and mynd that my debtes and funerall expences shalbe discharged and paid out of my whole goodes It’m wheares I am interessed in on’ tenem’t in Headocke afforesaid to me and myne Assignes for certaine yeeres yett in beinge w’ch I lately obtained from John Winstanley of Ashton I doe hearby .... appoynte and Assigne the said meassuage tenem’t and all other th’ app’tenn’s thereto belongeinge dureinge the terme I have theirin to Raph Lowe & Will’m Lowe my twoe brothers and to Elline Lowe my sister equally amongste them to live theron together and if any of them be mynded to loane their owne p’te it is my will that w’ch of them soever is mynded to live upon the same shall give the rest some reasonable & competent consideracon for their p’te att the sighte of Indefferent neiboures It’m I give unto my brotherinlaw John Maddocke to the use of his wyffe and Children fortie poundes   It’m I give unto my brotherinlaw Roger Toppinge to the use of his wyfe and Children the sume of fyftye poundes   It’m whearas ther is due unto me to aryse out of the  tenem’t late of Humfrey Burscough yje some of £20 I doe give the same £20 unto Allice Burcough my sister to be imployed to the god and benefite of her Children att the sighte and discrecion of Henry Lowe and Will’m Lowe my brothers   It’m I give unto my sister Elline Lowe twentie poundes and my browne Cowe   It’m I give unto my brother Ralph Lowe my best bedde and all thinges belongeinge to the same   It’m I give unto my sister Anne wyfe of Will’m Rthwell tenne shillinges It’mwhearas I am Interessed in certaine p’celles of houseinge and Clausures in the Countie afforesaid to me beinge p’cell of the Inheritance of John Winstanley to me and myne Assignes for the terme of on hundred and eighteene yeeres yett in beinge as by sav’all wryteninges therof made it doth and maye apeare

It is now my will and mynde and I doe hearby Assigne give and bequeath aswell all my estate p’mises in Ashton as also the remander of all my goodes Cattalls and Chattelles whatsoev’ over the dischargeinge of my funerell expences and legasces unto Will’m Lowe my brother   It’m I give unto Will’m Corles all such money as hee oweth me   It’m I ordaine and make my loveinge brother Will’m Lowe my true and lawfull Executor to execute this my laste will and Testam’t as my trust is in him   It’m I revoke and forsacke all former willes by me heartofore made and doe ordaine this to be my laste will & Testam’t   It’m it is my will that if I shall hearafter give any legasie or alter any thing hearin given and to that end declare the same be fore twoe or more wittnesses that the same shalbe indorsed hearunto or on the backe syde hearof and stande as p’te of my will   And in wittnesse hearof
