Transcription of the Will of GABRIEL LLOYD
(father of Elizabeth Goodman) – 1814

In the name of God Amen. I Gabriel Lloyd of
the Parish of Llanelidan in the County of Denbigh Yeoman do make
this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is
to say. I give and devise all my Allottments and Enclosures of
Common Land in the Parish of Llanelidan aforesaid which were sold
under the Authority of an Act of Parliament and which I purchased
with all their Rights, Privileges and Appurtenances unto my Friends
Richard Parry of Plas-yr-Esgob Gentleman and Thomas Lloyd of
Llwynynn Yeoman and to their Heirs and Assign forever Upon Trust
nevertheless that they and their survivor to sell and dispose of the
same either together or separately for the highest price or prices
that may be reasonably had and out of the money to arise for such
sale or sales in the first place to pay the costs and charges
attending the said Trust; in the next place to pay to my
Granddaughter Catherine Goodman the sum of Forty pounds, to my
granddaughter Susannah Goodman the sum of Forty pounds and to my
granddaughter Alice Goodman the sum of Twenty pounds, to whom I
severally give and bequeath the same And in the next place to pay
the sum of Forty pounds due by my note of land to Mr Price Maurice
of Ruthin and the further sum of One hundred and Sixty pounds
towards reducing several Mortgage Incumbrances amounting to the sum
of Two hundred and sixty pounds due to the said Price Maurice on my
Messuage or Tennements called Bodyngs situated in the Parish of
Llanynys in the said County and after payments of the said costs and
charges of the said Trust and of the several legacies of Forty
pounds, Forty pounds and Twenty pounds and of the said sums of Forty
pounds and One hundred and Sixty pounds then to pay the Overplus of
the said Purchase money to my Daughter Elizabeth Goodman her
Executors Administators and Assign to whom I give and bequeath the
same. I give and bequeath to my said Trustees the sum of One Guinea
each for their trouble And I order and direct that my said Trustees
shall not be answerable for any loss that may happen to the said
purchase or any part thereof without their wilful neglect or default
and that the Purchaser or Purchasers of the said Allotments after
payment of the purchase money shall not be answerable for the
misapplication or non application thereof And that the Receipt or
Receipts of my said Trustees or the survivor of them or the heirs of
such survivor shall be a sufficient discharge to such Purchaser or
Purchasers for the money therein expressed to be received. I also
give and devise all that my said Messuage or Tenement and lands
called Bodynys with the Appurtenances unto my Grandson Gabriel
Goodman his heirs and Assigns forever discharged by the means
aforesaid from all Mortgage Incumbrances affecting the same except
the principal Sum of One Hundred pounds.

I give and bequeath all my Right Title and
Interest Benefit Claim Demand, Equity and Power of Redemption of in
and to Nantclwyd is a farm with the appurtenances situate in the
Parish of Llanelidan aforesaid in the said County unto and for the
use of my Daughter Elizabeth Goodman and the said Gabriel Goodman
her eldest son and to their heirs and assigns forever And whereas I
am seized or possessed of entitled to three Messuages or Tenements
Lands and Hereditaments with their Appurtenances called Ty cerrig
Ty’n y Llidiard and Cae-cefn situate in the Parish of Corwen in the
County of Merioneth now held by Thomas Jones under a lease for a
term whereof about thirty eight years are unexpired at the clear
yearly rent of Twenty One pounds I order that One pound of the said
Twenty One pounds be yearly deducted by the said Thomas Jones for
the interest of twenty pounds which I owe him until that principal
be paid and the remaining annual rent or sum of twenty pounds I
give, devise and dispose of in annuities unto my said daughter
Elizabeth Goodman and my grandsons Gabriel Goodman and Godfrey
Goodman in manner following that is to say to my said daughter the
yearly sum of Five pounds for the term of her natural life; to the
said Gabriel Goodman the yearly sum of ten pounds for the term of
his natural life, and to the said Godfrey Goodman the remaining sum
of Five pounds for the term of his natural life. The said several
annuities to be paid as the rent of the said Tenements shall become
due. And I order and direct that the said several Annuitants shall
have as full power and authority in distraining for and recovering
their said several Annuities from the said Tenements as Landlords
have by Law in distraining for and recovering their rents. And
subject to a Moiety of the said Annuities of Twenty pounds per annum
I give and devise the said Messuage Lands and premises with their
Appurtenances called Ty’n y Llidiard and Cae-cefn charged and
chargeable with a moiety of the said several and respective yearly
Annuities amounting to Twenty pounds as aforesaid unto my said
daughter Elizabeth Goodman and my Grandson Godfrey Goodman for and
during the term of their natural lives and after the decease of my
said daughter then I give and devise the same premises Ty’n y
Llidiard and Cae-cefn unto my said Grandson Godfrey Goodman and to
the heirs of his body lawfully issuing and in default of such issue
then I give and devise the same to the said Gabriel Goodman his
heirs and Assigns forever. I do hereby declare order and direct that
in case any or other of my said Granddaughters shall happen

to depart this life without lawful issue the
legacy of her or them so dying shall go and be paid to my said
daughter. I give leave and bequeath unto my said Granddaughter
Catherine Goodman the Clock in my Room, Bed, Bedcloaths, Bedsteads
and two pair of Sheets in my Chest. Also I leave and bequeath Five
shillings to each of my grandchildren being the children of my late
son John Lloyd if they shall claim the same. And I leave and
bequeath my large cloaths cupboard and all the rest residue and
remainder of my personal Effects and Estates of what nature or kind
soever not herein before given or disposed of, unto my said daughter
Elizabeth Goodman whom I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint
as Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament herby revoking
and making void all and every other Will or Wills at any other time
heretofor by me made and declaring this to be my last Will and
Testament. And I do hope that no dispute or disagreement of any kind
will arise between my said relations touching anything given under
this my Will. In Witness whereof i have unto set my hand and seal
this twenty ninth day of February in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and twelve.

the presence of us who at his request in his presence and in the
presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses hereto

On the 30th day of August in the
year of our Lord 1813 the above written Will was infinuated, proved,
approved and in common form of law decreed valid, and Adminstration
granted to the above named executrix Elizabeth Goodman she being
first sworn in common form of law and that the whole of the Goods,
Chattelsand Credits of the said deceased do not amount in value to
£100.
