The Will of William Light

 

This is the last will and testament of me William Light of the Parish of Gillingham in the County of Dorset, Carpenter and Timber Merchant in manner and form following.  First I give devise and bequeath to Richard Light (my son) and Henry Light (my nephew) both of Gillingham aforesaid and to their heirs and Executors all the Premises I now occupy consisting of a Dwelling house, garden Workshop Board house Saw house Pigsties Cowstalls bar and Carthouse and Land now belonging to and Occupied by me as a Timber Yard or otherwise and situate at Bouridge bay in the said parish of Gillingham together with the whole of my household, furniture, livestock, stock in Trade, Tols etc with all my book debts, moneys and securitys for money and all other my real and personall estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever situate, In Trust nevertheless for such purposes and intents as is hereafter mentioned viz to my wife Mary Light during her Widowhood I give the house I now live in with the use of the whole of my household goods and furniture and tools all my livestock of whatever kind land and all the buildings standing thereon with the lease of Mr George Chitty’s land and all other of my personal estate of whatever kind, the whole to be enjoyed without lot or hindrance by my said wife Mary Light for and during her widowhood and no longer and after the decease or marriage of my said wife Trustees are to immediately sell the said dwelling house and premises, household goods and furniture land livestock tools and all the buildings of whatever kind standing on the lands so left to my said wife as aforesaid by Public Auction as is most Convenient and the monies produced by such sale or sales to be invested as is hereinafter directed for to be divided equally between my children Mary Ann Child, Richard, Eli, Caroline, Amelia, Frederic and Matilda, if then living but if either of my said children should not then be living or should not have left issue the money to be then equally divided between those then living saving that such issue (if any) shall be intitled to their parents share, And the said trustees are to gather in all my book debts and other moneys or securities for money or otherwise and to pay all just debts funeral expences etc and the remainder to be equally divided between the abovementioned persons my eldest son Charles having received his share already he is to have one shilling and no more out of my estate etc and in case I should survive my wife then the property that I am possess’d of at the time of my decease of whatever kind soever or wheresoever I desire the trustees to sell by Public Auction within one month after my decease and the produce of such sale or sales the moneys to be equally divided as above written (viz) between Mary, Ann Child, Richard, Eli, Caroline, Amelia, Frederic and Mathilda if then living but if either of my said children should not then be living or should not have left issue the money to be then equally divided between those then living saving that such issue (if any) shall be intitled to their Parents share and I do hereby make, ordain constitute and appoint my said Wife Mary Light and the said Richard Light (my son) and Henry Light (my nephew) to be my executors of this my last Will and testament hereby revoking all former wills or testaments by me heretofore at any time made.  In witness whereof I the said William Light have to this my last will and testament set and subscribed my hand and seall the 16 day of April in the year of our Lord 1844
