The Will of John Light

John Light of
Peasemarsh in the Parish of
Gillingham in the County of Dorset
yeoman I give my dwelling house with
the land and appurtenances thereto
adjoining and belonging where I am
living and all other my estate and
effects both real and personal unto
George Blandford Matthews of
Gillingham aforesaid esquire and to
his heirs executors, administrators
and assigns according to the legal
nature thereof upon trust by sale or
mortgage of all or any part of the
said hereditaments and premises or
otherwise from and out of my said
estate and effects to raise and pay
the several sums following that is
to say forty pounds sterling which I
give to my son Thomas Light payable
within three months after my decease
forty pounds which I give to my
daughter Sarah the wife of Thomas
Mitchell and forty pounds which I
give to my daughter Ann the wife of
George Martin which legacies to my
said daughters I direct to be raised
forthwith after my decease by my
said trustee George Blandford
Matthews but which I desire him to
pay over to my said daughters at
such time or times and by such
instalments or payments as in his
discretion shall be most to their
advantage respectively and such sums
to be for the separate use and
advantage of each of them
respectively free from the debts
control and engagements of their
respective husbands. And in trust
subject to all my funeral
testamentary and other debts
expenses and the said legacies to
transfer and pay my said real and
personal estate unto and for the
sole use and benefit of my son
Josiah Light living in my said
dwelling house his heirs executive
administrators and assigns according
to the legal nature thereof
respectively and all my residuary
estate and effects I will and
declare to be for the absolute use
and benefit of my said son Josiah.
I appoint George Blandford Matthews
sole executor of this my will In
witness whereof I have hereto set my
hand by putting my mark this eighth
day of February one thousand eight
hundred and seventy. The mark of
John Light.
Codicil 7
January 1873. He changes the amount
to £30 each as he couldn’t afford
£40 as he’d lived so long since
writing his will. Proved 3 March
1873. |
