The Will of John Liddell

 

Extracted from the Registry of the Consistory Court of Durham

This is the last Will and Testament of me John Liddell of Morpeth in the County of Northumberland Gentleman I give to my friend Benjamin Thompson the elder of Morpeth aforesaid the sum of nineteen guineas and I give to the children of my late friend William Thompson his brother but now deceased the sum of two hundred pounds now three and a half per cent annuities part of the new three and a half per cent annuities now belonging to me to be divided among and transferred to them respectively in equal shares I give to my Servant Mary Jetson all my household furniture and eight day clock also all my linen and wearing apparel together with the sum of fifty pounds sterling I give to Margaret Barrass Sister of my said Servant the sum of ten pounds and the Treasurer of the Morpeth Church of England Sunday School the sum of five pounds for the benefit of that Institution all the above legacies to be paid and transferred at the end of six calendar months after my decease I give to the said Benjamin Thompson the further sum of one hundred pounds to be paid to him at the end of twelve calendar months after my decease and as to all my freehold shop in the corner of the Market Place in Morpeth aforesaid now occupaied by Mr John ffenwick and all other my real estate And as to all the Residue and Remainder of my Personal Estate from and after payment of all my just debts funeral and testamentary expences I give devise and bequeath the same unto my Nephew and Niece John Liddell and Mary Liddell (children of my late brother Joseph) in equal shares and proportions as tenants in common and their several and respective heirs executors administrators and assigns in case they shall be both living at my death but if only one shall be then living then and in such case I give devise and bequeath the same respectively to such of them my said Nephew and Niece as shall be then so living his or her heirs executors administrators and assigns for ever I constitue and appoint the said Benjamin Thompson sole Executor of this my Will and revoke all Wills by me heretofore made In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty three Jno Liddell
