I MATTHEW LEWIS of Devonshire Place in the
parish of St Mary le Bone, Middlesex Esq, being of sound memory mind
and understanding do make and publish my last will and Testament in
manner following that is to say In the first place I subject and
make liable all my estates real and personal to the payment of my
debts and funeral and testamentory expences and the legacies which
I shall leave by this will or by any codicil thereto And I give
and bequeath to my beloved daughter SOPHIA ELIZABETH LEWIS the sum
of £13,300 to be paid to her within twelve months after my decease
and I further give and bequeath unto my said daughter £1,700 which
last sum is given to my daughter on condition that at the time of
the same being paid Cornwall and Black Morass Plantations in the
parish of Westmoreland in the Island of Jamaica to a moiety or equal
half part undivided of and in which Plantations my Son MATTHEW
GREGORY LEWIS will upon my death be entitles as tenant intail and
all other the estate of my late father WILLIAM LEWIS Esq deceased be
well and sufficiently released and discharged and from all claims
and bequeath my said daughter SOPHIA ELIZABETH LEWIS or any person
or persons in her right may have thereupon under or by virtue of my
Marriage settlement or under or by virtue of the last will and
testament of my said father in respect to her share and interest in
the sum of £5,000 provided by my marriage settlement and my father's
will for the issue of the marriage between me and my present wife
And I give and bequeath unto my dear and respected friend Mrs
SOPHIA RICKETTS widow of George Poyntz Ricketts Esq late Governor of
Barbadoes deceased £500 to be paid to her within one month after my
decease out of my monies that may be in the hands of my executors or
out of the first monies that shall be at the disposal of my
executors.And whereas my late dear friend the said Governor
RICKETTS was at the time of his death indebted to me in the sum of
£2,200 and upwards and I have since his de ease advanced sundry
other sums on account of his estate the payment of which debts would
be a serious inconvience to his family and very considerably
diminish the provision made for his widow and children now I do
herebyforgive and release his estate from the payment thereof and
all interest which may have accrued and shall ?......? ?...? for the
same up to the time of my decease it being my will and desire that
the same should be applied to and for the benefit of his widow and
children in such and the same or manner as he has by his last will
and testament directed his personal Estate to go and be applied And
I give and bequeath to each of my executors hereinafter named for
the purchase of a ring £100 to each of them Also I give one years
wages to each of my servants male and female who shall have been
twelve months in my service and be actually therein at the time of
my decease And all the rest and residue and remainder of my Estate
real and personal nas mixed whatsoever and wheresoever and of what
nature or kind soever in revision remainder ... I do give devise and
bequeath unto my beloved son MATTHEW GREGORY LEWIS his heirs and
executors and administrators absolutely... and I nominate and
consitute and appoint WILLIAM LUTHER SEWELL on the the six clerks in
the Court of Chancery, ROBERT BROWNRIGG Esq Colonel Commandant of a
Battalion of the 60th regiment of Foot and my son in law HENRY
LUSHINGTON Esq of Bedford Square Middlesex my executors. And I
hereby revoke all other wills by me made in witness whereof I have
to this my last will and testament set my hand and affix my seal
this 12th day of November 1800.

Codicil. I MATTHEW LEWIS of Devonshire Place in the Parish of Saint
Mary le Bone in the County of Middlesex .... I have given and
bequeathed to my beloved daughter SOPHIA ELIZABETH the sum of
£13,300 and £1,700 and upon the intended marriage of the said
daughter with JOHN SHEDDON Esq I have made a suitable portion for
her ... now revoke the before mentioned bequest ....17th January
1804
