The Will of Margaret Leedes
In the name of God Amen this seventeenth day of Novemeber in the fith year of their now Majesties Reign King William and Queen Mary Anno Domini 1693
I Margaret
Leedes of the
parish of
Biddenden in the
county of Kent
widdow being
sick and weak in
body, but of a
sound disposing
memory and
understanding
praised to God
for the same do
make and ordain
this my last
will and
testament in
manner and form
following: first
I recommend my
soul to God that
gave me, and my
body I hand to
this earth…: and
as for my
worldly goods I
dispose of as
followeth,
Imprimis I give
to my son Edward
Leedes of the
parish of High
Halden the sum
of five pounds
of good English
money to be paid
to him within
six months next
after my death,
Item I give to
my son Richard
Leedes the sum
of twenty pounds
of good English
money to be paid
to him within
twelve months
next after my
death, Item I
give to James
Tanner of
Biddenden
aforesaid
malster the sum
of twenty
shillings, of
good English
money and to
Elizabeth the
wife of James
Tanner the like
sum of twenty
shillings of
good English
money, both
which to be paid
within three
months next
after my Death:
Item I give to
Margaret
Chittenden one
of the daughters
of farmer
Chittenden late
of Appledore,
the sum of
twenty pounds of
good English
money to be laid
out, and
disposed at the
discretion of my
executor
hereafter
mentioned
towards the
maintenance, and
education of her
the said
Margaret
Chittenden, Item
I give unto the
aforesaid
Margaret
Chittenden a
trunk, that was
her fathers, and
also three gold
rings, two
silver tastors,
and a set of
silver buttons,
a pair of flaxen
sheets with
other linen
which is laid in
the trunk
aforesaid, to be
delivered to her
the said
Margaret
Chittenden at
the age of
sixteen years
Item I give the
aforesaid
Margaret
Chittenden my
best wearing
apparel to be
disposed to her
at the
discretion of my
executor Item I
give to my son
Edward Leedes
his now wife my
old apparel to
be given to her
at the
discretion of my
executor
hereinafter
nominated, Item
I give to my son
Richard Leedes
to pairs of
flaxen sheets to
be delivered to
him within three
months next
after my death:
All the rest and
remainder of my
good and
personal estate
whatsoever
deducting so
much as will pay
and satisfy all
my debts,
legacys, funeral
expences, and
probate of this
my will: I give
and bequeath
unto my son
George Leedes,
Who I make and
ordain executor
of this my last
will and
testament
desiring him to
perform the same
and according to
the fair intent
and meaning
however, And I
do now utterly
renounce and
make void all
other wills by
me made , and do
publish and
declare this to
be my last will
and testament,
in witness
thereof I the
said Margaret
Leedes have
hereunto set my
hand and seal
the day and year
first written.
