The Will of Margaret Leedes
 

 In the name of God Amen the 16th day of September ano one thousand five hundred eightytwo and in the 23 rd year of the reign of our most gracious and sovereign Lady Elizabeth by the grace of God Queen of England, France & Ireland defender of the faith, I Margaret Leedes of Benenden in the county of Kent widow of Lawrence Leedes late of Benenden aforesaid……………being……….of mind and in good health and perfect memory make and praise be to Almighty God do make ordain and appoint this my last testament containing herein my last will in manner and form following.

First and principally I commend my soul to Almighty God my maker  and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Benenden aforesaid or elsewhere it shall please God………to this…….life.

Item. I give and bequeath to the poor people of the parish of Benenden aforesaid two shillings and sixpence of lawfull money of England to be distrained amongst them

Item.  I give and bequeath to my daughter Anne Leedes now wife of George Leedes of Cranbrook in the County of Kent, glover, the sum of ten pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid to her or to her administrators…………………within one year next after my death by my executor.

Item.  I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane Benson now wife of Lawrence Benson of Cranbrook aforesaid the sum of four pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid to her or to her executors and administrators within one year next after my death.

Item. I give and bequeath to my goddaughter Elizabeth Leedes daughter of my son William Leedes my best four sheets.

Item. I give and bequesth to Barbara Leedes daughter of my son  William Leedes one round table.

Item. I give and bequeath to Elizabeth Leedes daughter of George Leedes one……..

Item. I give Elizabeth and Nathaniel Benson……….of Lawrence Benson our……….platter. The rest of my goods…….platter……. Elizabeth and ………whatsoever my debts being paid funeral expenses defrayed fulfilled I will and bequeath to William Leedes my son the rest. The said William Leedes my son I ordain and make my sole executor to do and fullfill all and everything and things herein I  do herein…………….and disallow all and every former wills and testaments whatsoever at any time or times before these…….made and in………I the said Margaret Leedes set my hand and seal the day and year aforesaid in the presence of John Lendon  and John Chittenden.
