The 8th day

fiftieth, I Edward Leede
the elder of Benenden
being of whole mind &
perfect memory praised
be God make my present
testament & last will in
manner and form
following First I
bequeath my soul to
Almighty God & my body
to be buried in the
churchyard of Benenden
aforesaid.
Item I bequeath to the
poor mans box there 2s.
Item I bequeath to every
of my godchildren 4d.
Item I bequeath to Joan
my wife one cow the best
I have.
Item when the said
Joanne my wife is
contented & paid of such
money or moveable as I
am bound to pay her in
our obligation made at
the tyme of our marriage
as in the same
obligation plainly will
appeare. Then the
residue of all my
moveable goods my debts
& bequests first paid I
give & bequeath them to
William John
Christopher Lawrence &
Edward my sons. The
which Wm John
Christopher Lawrence &
Edward I make & ordain
my executors of this my
present testament & last
will.
Item I will that Thomas
Benntt my son in law
shall have the same 5
pounds of money which I
do owe him for his
wife’s marriage.
Item I will that Joan my
wife shall have during
her life 6 loads of best
wood & the fagot lathe
of the same according to
the indenture of the
same thereof made at the
time of our marriage And
all other things
ordained to her by the
same indenture the which
indenture her brother
John Lucas hath in his
custodie.
This is the last will of
me the said Edward Leede
made the day & year
above written and in the
fifth year of the reign
of our sovereign Lord
Edward the sixth by the
grace of God King of
England France & Ireland

in earth the supreme
head. First I will that
Lawrence Leede my son
anone (soon) after my
decease shall have my
messuage at Dyngulden
with two gardens & nine
pieces of land with the
appurtanances containing
by estimation 13 acres
whichever more or less
it be had sett &
together lying & being
in the parish of
Benenden upon the denne
of Dyngulden to have and
to hold to the same
Lawrence his heirs &
assigns for ever.
Also I will that
Christopher Leede my son
anone (soon) after my
decease shall have my
messuage garden and 2
peces (pieces) of land
with apputanances
containing by estimation
3 acres of land sett
lying & being in the
said parish of Benenden
upon the denne of Iden
to have & to hol;d to
the same Christopher his
heirs & assigns forever.
Also I will that
William John & Edward
my sons anone (soon)
after my decease shall
have equally between
them three peces
(pieces) of land and one
shawe (a wood) called
Hoyland containing by
estimation 18 acres of
lands lying & being in
the parishes of Benenden
& Rolvenden And also all
my lands called Brownes
containing by estimation
21 acres of lands &
woods whether it be more
or less together lying
and being in the said
parish of Benenden &
Rolvenden And also my
woodland called
Lylandewood containing
by estimation 24 acres
of woodlands whether
more or less it be had
together lying & being
in the parish of
Rolvenden aforesaid to
have and to hold all the
said lands & woods with
appurtanances unto the
said William John &
Edward their heirs &
assigns for ever. Also
more I will that anone
(soon) after my decease
that the said William
Christopher Lawrence
& Edward my sons shall
have equally between
them one piece of land
called Knowle & one
piece of woodland called
the Frame with
appurtanances containing
by estimation 7 acres of
land & wood lying &
being in the parish of
Benenden aforesaid upon
the dennes of Dingulden
& Holmeherst to have &
to hold to the same Wm
Christopher John
Lawrence & Edward & to
their heirs & assigns
for ever provided always
that the said
Christopher Leeds shall
discharge my executors
if the obligation in
which I am bound with
him in 40 marks for the
surety of his wife of my
said executors be vexed
or troubled by reason of
the said obligation then
I will that he or his
heirs shall have no part
of the said lands or
tenaments before
ordained to him but
wholly remayne to my
other sons & to their
heirs & assigns for ever
being witnesses to all
