The Will of John Leede
 

In the name of God Amen, I John Leede person of E. Guildford in the County of Sussex, the 10th day of October in the year of our Lord God 1581 in the reign of Regina Elizabeth the 23rd being sick in body but of good and perfect mind and memory thanks be to God do make & ordain this my last will and testament in manner & form following. Imprimis I will & bequeath my soul to Almighty God my heavenly father & my body to the earth from whence it came.

Item I will & bequeath unto Mr. Henry Guildford 30 ewes & 2 lambs to be delivered immediately after my decease by my executors.

Item I will & bequeath unto James Persall of Rye merchant and his wife 20s of lawful money of England to be likewise paid by my executors out of five pounds which I lent unto Dr Giles Fletcher which I delivered to Stephen French.

Item I give & bequeath to Mr. Wm Appleton recorder of Rye & Ann his wife 20s of like money to be paid by my executors immediately after my decease.

Item I will & bequeath unto John Leeds my brothers son out of the foresaid sum of five pounds which the said Mr Doctor Giles Fletcher oweth me three pounds toward the keeping of him schooling.

Item I give & bequeath unto William Leede my brother my grey mare & I will unto Thomas Leed of Cranbrook my mare if she be to be found.

Item I give unto the said Thomas Leede a young cow bull.

Item I give & bequeath all my household stuff unbequeathed and delivered in my lifetime unto Richard & Christopher Leede sons of Walter Leede of Benenden deceased.

I will & bequeath unto Christopher Leede the son of Gregory Leede of Benenden in the County of Kent my great sow great with farrows.

Item I will & bequeath unto Stephen Leede the son of the said Gregory Leede one stud mare colt of half year old.

Item I will & bequeath unto the poor people of the parish of E.Guildford aforesaid 40s of lawful money of England to be paid at my burial.

Item I will & bequeath unto the poor people of the parish of Playdon to be paid likewise at the day of my burial 20s of like money.

Item divers pieces of my goods & chattels I have given & delivered to divers persons in my life time and finally the rest of any goods & chattels unbequeathed and given not & delivered with mine own hand in my lifetime my debts being paid and my funeral expenses discharged I will and bequeath unto John Watte and Thomas Bett of East Guildford aforesaid whom I make & ordain my executors of this my last will & testament. In witness whereof I the aforesaid John Leede to this my present last will & testament I have set my hand & seal in the presence of these whose names are hereunder written the day & year first above written.
