The Will of Richard Leed
 

 

In the name of God Amen.The two and twentieth day of May in the year of our Lord God One thousand six hundred & seventeen I Richard Leed of the parish of Cranbrook in the county of Kent, husbandman, sick of body but of good and perfect memory praise be to God do ordain and make this my last will and testament in manner and form following First and principally I give and bequeath my soul to God that gave it and my body to be buried at the discretion of my executrix. Imprimis I give and bequeath all my movable goods & chattels whatsoever unto my loving wife Mary, she paying my debts, legacies and funeral expenses and her I make my whole & sole executrix of this my last will and testament. This is the last will and testament of me the said Richard Leed concerning my lands & tenements whatsoever lying and being in the parishes of Cranbrook & Biddenden or elsewhere. Imprimis  I give and bequeath my said lands & tenement before specified unto my wife Mary and to her heirs forever. Item I give & bequeath unto my daughter Susan three score pounds of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto her when she shall accomplish the age of twenty years by mine executrix & her executors or assigns. If mine executrix happen to marry before my said daughter accomplish the age of twenty years than my will and mind is that except her husband who shall intend to take do before the solemonizing of the marriage give good & sufficient land unto Walter Chauntler his heirs or assigns for the payment of the said three score pounds unto my said daughter at  her age of twenty years, then I will & bequeath the said three score pounds shall be paid unto my wife’s father Walter Chauntler he giving his own land for the payment thereof unto my said daughter when she shall accomplish her age of twenty years as aforesaid. Now for the payment of this legacy of three score pounds before given to my daughter my will & mind is mine executrix her heirs or assigns shall sell the said land & tenement within four years next after my decease & out of the same money shall pay the said legacy of three score ponds but if my executrix happen not to sell the said land & tenement within the term of four years as aforesaid my will and mind is that my said executrix her executors or assigns shall pay & discharge the said three score pounds unto my said daughter Susan according to the true intent and meaning of my will and in consideration of these my legacys unto my wife given I will & my mind is that my wife shall educate & bring up my said daughter in the fear of God as I hope she will &  all the residue of the money of the lands and tenement and all the residue of my goods & chattels whatsoever my debts legacys & funeral expenses discharged I have given & bequeathed to my wife Mary my wife whole & sole executrix of this my last will & testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the day and year abovesaid.
