ABSTRACT
OF WILL of Edward LEE, Yeoman of
East Farndon
In the name of
God Amen.
I Edward Lee
of East Farndon in the County of
Northampton, Yeoman, being of sound
and disposing mind… etc
1 Give
to son Edward Lee the house wherein
I now dwell together with the
homestead, home close and
appurtenances thereto belonging.
2 My
wife to have the use of the said
house, homestead and home close and
appurtenances during her life
3 Said
son Edward to pay to Trustees and
Executors hereafter named the sum of
fifty pounds when after my wife’s
decease the said house, homestead,
home close and appurts falls to him
to be applied in the trusts and for
the purposes thereafter mentioned,
and make house etc. chargeable with
payment of same.
4 To
said wife the furniture of the
Chamber over the parlour.
5 To
said wife and friends and kinsmen Mr
Thomas Lee and William Allard, both
of East Farndon, and Theophilus
Green of Hannington my two yard
lands lying and being in East
Farndon with their appurts and also
the lands now in possession of my
mother-in-law Mrs Elizabeth Ashby
after her decease, also the
aforesaid sum of fifty pounds and
also all and singular my goods,
chattels, stock and personal estate
whatsoever and wheresoever after my
debts and legacies are paid and
funeral expenses discharged, UPON
TRUST, my wife during her life in
case she continues my widow, to take
the rents, issues and profits of my
sd. lands and the sd. lands now in
possession of Mrs Elizabeth Ashby
after the latter’s decease and to
have the use of my personal estate
for her own maintenance and towards
the educating and bringing up my
children, allowing to my sd. younger
children as they may severally have
occasion for preferment or
advancement in this world such
portion or portions, sum or sums of
money as they in their discretion
shall think meet and reasonable.
6 I do
so devise to said wife and said
Thomas Lee, William Allard and
Theophilus Green my sd. lands and
personal estate to sell and mortgage
the same or such part as they shall
see good for that purpose.

If said wife marry again she shall
have only twelve pounds per annum
paid her quarterly for life and
shall not intermeddle or have any
concern with my sd. lands or
personal estate or the lands of Mrs
Elizabeth Ashby afores’d or in the
execution of the Trusts hereinbefore
expressed.
8 In
case my son Edward shall think fit
to pay such portions, sum or sums of
money as by Trustees charged on my
sd. lands for the purposes afores’d,
that he shall have first preference
in redeeming the same.
9 If
wife shall in a short time depart
this life, Thos Lee, Wm Allard and
Theo Green may provide by
purchasing, renting or building a
convenient house for my younger
children while unmarried to dwell
together if not provided before by
my sd. Wife in her lifetime.
10 To sd
kinsmen Thos Lee, Wm Allard and Theo
Green one guinea apiece.
11 Appoint wife and sd kinsmen
Thos Lee, Wm Allard and Theo Green
Executors.
