In
the name of god Amen in
the 20th day
of June in the year of
our Lord God 1558 I
Gregory Leede of the
parish of Benenden being
of good remembrance and
of whole mind do make my
testament and last will
as hereafter doth
follow. First I bequeath
my soul to Almighty God
and to all the holy
company of heaven & my
body to be buried in the
church earth of
Benenden. And I will
that my executor shall
bestow at my burying at
her own discretion & I
will & make Agnes my
wife to be my sole
executrix of this my
last will & I give to my
wife all my moveable
goods under this
condition that she pay
all my bequests and
debts. And I bequeath to
the high alter of
Benenden for my tithes
negligently or willingly
for slowed 12d.
This is the testament of
the above named Gregory
Leede as concerning my
lands made the day and
year above mentioned.
First I ordain to Agnes
my wife to occupy all my
housing & lands with the
parish of Benenden for
term of life to have to
her assigns upon this
condition that she keep
necessary reparations
and pay the Lords rent
and to pay my daughter
Elizabeth £3 6s 8d at
the time of her marriage
or else at her age of 20
years. Furthermore I
will that if it fortune
all my children to die
before my said wife
without children then I
will my said wife shall
have all my housing and
lands in the parish of
Benenden to have her
heirs in fee simple
forever on this
condition that Agnes my
wife do pay or cause to
be payed to four of my
brothers Richard
Christopher William &
Walter Leede £40 of
lawful money of England
to them or to their
heirs. This witnesseth
John Reed William Leede
Lawrence Day and Richard
Leede of Benenden and
diverse others.
