This is
the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Langhorne of Ford House
near Alfreton in the County of Derby Esquire. I give and devise
all that my copyhold messuage and dwellinghouse now called the
Buck Inn at Reeth in the County of York with the yard
outbuildings and appurtenances thereto belonging or therewith
usually occupied and enjoyed including a cellar on the opposite
side of the Road or Street And also all those my three copyhold
fields or closes of Land near to and behind the said Inn called
or commonly known by the respective names of Bank Wiseman Close
and Horne Close unto and to the use of John Bailey Langhorne of
Wakefield in the said County of York Gentleman his heirs and
assigns for ever. And I give and devise all the rest and residue
of my real estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature
or kind soever unto and to the use of Vaughan Hobbs Radford of
Carnfield Hall in the said County of Derby esquire his heirs and
assigns. And I give and bequeath all my money securities for
money and all other my personal estate and effects whatsoever
and wheresoever unto the said John Bailey Langhorne and Vaughan
Hobbs Radford their executors administrators and assigns Upon
trust to sell or dispose of collect get in and convert into
money so much and such parts of the said personal estate and
effects as shall not consist of money and thereout in the first
place to pay and discharge any debts funeral and testamentary
expenses and in the next place to pay thereout the following
pecuniary legacies that is to say to James Clarkson of Kearton
in the parish of Grinton in the said County of York Farmer the
sum of Three hundred pounds to Hannah Roberts of Chesterfield in
the said County of Derby Widow the sum of One hundred pounds to
James Robinson Tomlin of Richmond in the County of York
Gentleman the sum of One hundred pounds To Elizabeth the wife of
the said John Bailey Langhorne the sum of fifty pounds as her
separate property independent of her husband To Agnes Mary the
daughter of the said John Bailey Langhorne the sum of Fifty
pounds to be paid to her if and when she shall attain the age of
Twenty one years. To Mary Elizabeth Walker and Ann Walker the
two daughters of the late Mary Wood Wife of John Wood of
Chesterfield aforesaid Wine Merchant by (blank) Walker her first
husband the sum of fifty pounds each To William Tunstall
formerly in my service the sum of fifty pounds To Isabella the
Daughter of the said Hannah Roberts the sum of fifty pounds To
Raper Clarkson of Winterings in the parish of Grinton aforesaid
Yeoman the sum of Fifty pounds To William Bousfield formerly my
Servant the sum of Fifty pounds and To Thomas Coates of Eskeleth
House in Arkindale in the said County of York Yeoman the sum of
fifty pounds And I give and bequeath all the rest residue and
remainder of my said personal estate and effects after answering
the payments above mentioned and any other Legacy or Legacies I
may have by any Codicil or Codicils to this my Will to the said
Vaughan Hobbs Radford for his own absolute use and benefit And I
direct that all the said legacies shall be paid free of Legacy
Duty. And I devise all estates vested in me as trustee or
mortgagee unto and to the use of the said John Bailey Langhorne
and Vaughan Hobbs Radford their heirs executors and
administrators subject nevertheless to the equities affecting
the same respectively. And I hereby empower my said Trustees or
Trustee in execution of the trusts hereby reposed to them to
compound or allow such time or accept such security real or
personal for the payment of any sum or sums of money which shall
be owing to me at my decease as by them or him shall be deem
expedient in whether the debts so compounded for shall be
secured or not And also to refer to arbitration or otherwise
adjust settle or compromise any questions or disputes that may
arise concerning my estate And I declare that the receipts in
writing of the Trustees or Trustee for the time being of this my
Will shall be effective discharges for any monies payable to
them or him under or by virtue thereof and that the persons
paying the same shall not afterwards be answerable or
accountable for any loss of misapplication thereof. And I exempt
any Trustee of my Will from liability for lapses occurring
without his own wilful default And I authorize the Trustees or
Trustee for the time being of this my Will to retain and allow
to each other any expences incidental to their Trusteeship. And
I direct that the said John Bailey Langhorne shall be paid his
reasonable professional charge for any legal business transacted
by him for my Executors and Trustees any rules of Law or equity
notwithstanding. And I appoint the said John Bailey Langhorne
and Vaughan Hobbs Radford Executors of this my Will. In witness
whereof I have herewith set my hand this nineteenth day of
August in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and

This is a
Codicil to the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Langhorne
hereinbefore written. I give and bequeath my Leasehold Field
called Millums in the Township of Reeth now in the occupation of
William Blenkiron to Vaughan Hobbs Radford hereinbefore named
his executors administrators and assigns for his and their own
use and benefit. And I confirm my said Will in all other
respects. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this
Twentythird day of August in the year of our Lord One thousand
eight hundred and sixtyfive ----Thomas Langhorne---- Signed by

Proved at
Derby, with a Codicil the 16th day of January 1872 by
the oaths of John Bailey Langhorne and Vaughan Hobbs Radford.
Esquire the Executors named in the Will to whom administration
was granted.
The
Testator Thomas Langhorne was formerly of Ford House near
Alfreton in the County of Derby, and late of Carnfield Hall in
the same County, Esquire, and died on the 12th day of
December 1871 at Carnfield Hall aforesaid.
