The Will of Richard Lambe

 

In the Name of God Amen I Richard Lambe of Basingstoke in the County of Southton Malster being ill and weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory thanks and praise be therefore given to Almighty God Doe make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following Imprimis I comend my soule into the hands of Almighty God my Creator and Redeemer who said I am the Resurrection and the life and in him and by him and though him I believe that although my body for a time shall be inclosed in earth yett in due time both soule and body shall enjoy eternall felicity I know that my Redeemer liveth and that in the day of my Resurrection I shall see my Saviour in my Flesh This is my hope As for my Funerall I leave it to my Executrix herein after named And as for such temporall estate wherewith my Creator hath blessed me I give and bequeath the same as followeth Item I give and bequeath unto my loveing Wife Betty Lambe all those my two barns and Backside in Basingstoke aforesaid And all my forty acres of arrable land lying dispersedly in the Comon fields of Basingstoke aforesaid and my Close of Meadow ground containing one acre and a halfe or thereabouts be it more or less near The Closes called Nicholas Crofts which are all my owne Freehold with their and every of their appurtenances To have and to hold the same two Barnes Backside Forty acres of Land and Close of Meadow ground to her my said loveing Wife for and during the terme of her naturall life And from and after her decease I give and devise the aforesaid Barnes Backside Forty acres of Land and Close of Meadow ground with their appurtenances unto my Son Richard Lambe To have and to hold the same to my said Son Richard Lambe and the Heirs of his body lawfully to be begotten And for want of such Issue I give and devise the aforesaid two Barnes Backside Forty acres of arrable Land and Close of Meadow ground to my son John Lambe and the Heires of his body lawfully to be begotten And for want of such Issue to the right Heires of me the said Richard Lambe forever Item I give and devise unto my said loveing Wife all my Leases which I have of Messuages Tenements or Lands in Basingstoke aforesaid and in Wildmore To have and to hold the same to her and her Executors and Administrators for and during the termes of yeares I have therein now to come and unexpired item I give and bequeath unto my two Sons William Lambe and John Lambe And to my foure Daughters Elizabeth Lambe Mary Lambe Avice Lambe and Anne Lambe the sume of Fourescore pounds apeice of Lawfull money of England To be paid to them and every of them when they and every of them shall attaine and come to their severall and respective ages of Five and twenty yeares or on their respective and severall dayes of marryage which shall first happen And if it shall happen That any of my said Sons William Lambe and John Lambe or of my said Daughters Elizabeth Lambe Mary Lambe Avice Lambe and Anne Lambe shall happen to dye and departe this life before the Legacies or Legacie of him her or them soe dying shall be equally divided betweene the survivor and survivors of them Item I give and bequeath unto my said loveing Wife all my stock of corne cattle Chattells Implements of Household Household stuffe and utensills and all other my personall estate whatsoever which shall remaine after my debts and legacies are paid and discharged to her her Executors and Assignes And I doe hereby make and ordaine her my said loveing Wife the sole and whole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament And if it shall happen that my stock of Corne Cattle Chattells and Personall Estate upon a reasonable appraisment thereof after my decease will not come to and be sufficient to pay my debts and the legacies by me given and bequeathed Then I will that my said sons Richard Lambe William Lambe and John Lambe to whom I have limitted my said Barnes Backside Land and Close and such of them to whom the same shall come hereafter shall out of the same well and truly pay or cause to be paid towards the said Legacies the sume of one hundred pounds of lawfull money of England by partes and portions and according as the said legacies shall become payable And I doe hereby charge the said aforesaid Barnes Backsides Arable Lands and Close of Meadow ground with the payment of the same accordingly In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale this Tenth day of February Anno Domini one thousand six hundred ninety nine Richard Lambe
