I Jonathan Laidman of Gilmonby in the Parish of Bowes and
County of York Yeoman being under the infirmities of old Age but
of sound perfect and disproving Mind, and Memory, praised by God
for it / do make, publish, and declare this to be my last Will
and Testament in Manner and Form following. First I recommend my
Soul into the Hands of Almighty God, hoping through the Merits
and Mediation of Jesus Christ my blessed Saviour to receive free
pardon of all my Sins & a Resurection to eternal Life/ and my
body I commit to the earth to be decently Inter’d at the
discretion and by the Direction[?] and Order of my Executor
hereinafter mentioned; First I will that all any just Debts and
Funeral Expences be justly paid by my Executor herein after
named, And as to what worldly Estate it hath pleased God
to bless me with, or that I am seized or possessed off, I
dispose of it in Mannoer following. In the first place I
give and bequeath and devise to my Son Jonathan ^or his Heirs^
my dweling House in Bowes(wherein William Bailey now lives)
together with the yard out-Houses and Croft on the back Side
thereof with their appurtenances, boundering on the East of the
Lands of Mr Emersons Executors, on the North of Bowes Cow-Close,
on the West of the Lands of Mr Wilkinson and on the South of the
Town Street of Bowes. Also I give and devise to my said Son
Jonathan ^or his heirs^ a parcel of Land in the said Township of
Bowes / known by the mane of Low Field with a Cow-House
thereupon, boundering on the East of the Lands of Thomas
Aislabie, on the South of the River Greata, on the West on the
Lands of Jonathan Isabel Laidman of Howlowlgill, and on
the North of the Kings high Street. And Also I give and Devise
to my said Son Jonathan ^or his Heirs^ the Sum of Twenty Poundes
of lawful Money to be paid him one Year after my Decease by my
Executor after named. And lastly I give devise and bequeath all
the rest and Residue of my Estate, Messuages, Land and Tenements
and Hereditaments in the Parish of Bowes or else where in the
County of York and not herein and hereby disposed of before,
unto my Son Thomas
to hold the same unto the use of my said
Son Thomas his Heirs and Assigns for ever, and as for the rest
and residue of my Estate whether Real or personal, or of what
nature or kind soever the same be I give devise [logate?] and
bequeath the same to the only proper use and behoof of my Son
Thomas sole executor of this my last Will and Testament, his
Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever. And I do
hereby make and ordain him my Son Thomas solde Executor of this
my last Will and Testamant, hereby revoking all former Will and
Wills by me heretofore made In Witness whereof I have here unto
set my hand and Seal this 4th Day of April in ye year
of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty One.
