The last Will and
Testament of me Elizabeth Kingsley of
Walkern in the County of Hertford Widow I appoint my son in law
Thomas Stockbridge and my friend John Throssell joint Executors
of this my Will I devise to the said Thomas Stockbridge and John
Throssell and to their heirs my messuage or tenement at Walkern
aforesaid with the Bakehouse and appurtenances thereto belonging
A cottage and two acres of land at Walkern aforesaid in the
occupations of myself and the said Thomas Stockbridge or so much
and such part of the same hereditaments as are freehold and all
other my freehold estate whatsoever and wheresoever Upon trust
that they or the survivor of them or his heirs do and shall as
soon as conveniently may be after my decease sell and dispose of
the same by Public Auction or private contract at their or his
discretion for the most money and best price that can be
reasonably had for the same And I authorize and direct my said
Executors and the survivor of them or his heirs in like manner
to sell and dispose of so much and such part of the said
hereditaments as are copyhold and also all other my copyhold
hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever and to facilitate such
sales I declare that the Conveyance and receipt of my said
Executors and trustees or of the survivor of them or his heirs
shall be a good and effectual Conveyance to the purchaser or
purchasers of all or any part of my said Estates and a
sufficient discharge for the purchase money and that no
purchaser taking such a conveyance and receipt shall be bound to
see to the application of the purchase money or be in anywise
answerable for the misapplication or nonapplication of the same
And I direct them to add the purchase money to my personal
estate And I direct them after payment of my debts funeral and
testamentary expenses to pay and divide the same unto and
equally amongst my six children namely Elizabeth the wife of
Daniel Griffin, Hannah the wife of Thomas Stockbridge, Ann the
wife of Thomas Grover, Susan the wife of William Pearman, Mary
the wife of John Cock, and Emily the wife of Thomas Garrett but
each of them is first to account for the sums which I have
advanced to them or their husbands (that is to say) the said
Elizabeth Griffin the sum of four hundred pounds, the said
Hannah Stockbridge the sum of five hundred pounds and eighty
pounds, the said Ann Grover the sum of two hundred pounds, the
said Mary Cock the sum of one hundred pounds and the said Emily
Garrett the sum of one hundred pounds and if any of them shall
have died in my lifetime leaving a husband her surviving I give
her share to such husband but if either of them shall have died
leaving issue and not leaving a husband then I give such share
unto such issue in equal proportions I authorize my said
Executors and the survivor of them to apply the interest of the
share of any Grandchild in or towards her or his maintenance and
education And I also authorize them or the survivor of them to
advance for any such Grandchild any portion of his or her
expectant share for placing him or her out to any trade or
otherwise for his or her advancement in the World I declare
that it shall be lawful for my said Executors and Trustees out
of the monies which shall come to their hands to deduct and
retain and each to pay to the other all such costs charges and
expenses as they or either of them shall sustain or be put to in
the execution or defence of this my Will and that one of them
shall not be answerable or accountable for the other of them or
for the acts, receipts neglects or defaults of the other but
each for his own acts receipts neglects or defaults only and
that neither of them shall be chargeable with or accountable for
any more money than he shall actually receive nor for any loss
or damage which may happen by placing the said trust money in
any Bank or Bankers hands for safe custody or otherwise in or
about the execution of this my Will without his wilful neglect
or default In witness whereof I the said Elizabeth Kingsley
the testatrix have to each sheet of this my Will contained in
three sheets of paper set my hand this twenty second day of July
one thousand eight hundred and fifty one
Elizabeth Kingsley Signed published and
declared by the said Elizabeth Kingsley the testatrix as and for
her last Will and Testament in the presence of us both present
at the same time who in her presence and in the presence of each
other attest the same as witnesses

Proved at London the
19th Feby 1852 before the Worshipful Thomas Spinks Doctor of
Laws and Surrogate by the oaths of Thomas Stockbridge and John
Throssel the executors to whom admon was granted having been
first sworn duly to administer.
