The Will & Inventory of Peter Kenyon

 

In the name of god amen 1623 the 30th day of June in the 21st yeare of the Raigne of our most gracious Sov’raigne Lord James by the grace of god kinge of England  Newton in Makerfield in the countie of Lancaster yeoman beeing in health of bodie and of god and p’fect mynd & memorie all laud thanks & praise bee given to almightie god therefore revokecinge & renouncinge all form’r will & testament by me heretofore made Do constitute ordagne & make this testament contayninge therin my last will in man’r & forme followinge that is to say first & principally I commend & bequeth my Soule into the handes of Almightie god my maker and redeem’r trusting most assuredly by & through the merite death & passion of our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ to be one of the number of those who are ordagned to salvacon And my body I committ to the earth from whence it came to be buried at my p’ish Church of Wynwicke att the discrecon of my executors It’m whereas I the said Peter Kenion name and state and ame interessed in one mesuge and tenement w’th the Appurteninces whatsoev’r siutuat lyeinge and beeing in Newton aforesaid nowe in the occupacon of mee the said Peter Kenion or of my assigne or assignes for and during the Terme of threescore & nineteen yeares yet to come & not expired if I the said Peter Robert Kenion wrall sonne of mee the said Peter & Katherine Kenion nowe wife of mee the said Peter all ev’ry or any of us do so long as we by one Indenture of lease thereof bearing date the twelfe day of September the fourth yeare of king James his raigne over England and of Scotland the 40th under the hand and seale of Sir Peter Legh knight relacon beeing hadd thereunto more playnly and att large it doth & may appeare Nowe it is the will mynd purposefull intente and resolucon of mee the said Peter Kenion to assigne the said mesuage and teneme’t And all my right estate lyffe terme intrest proprotie clayms dmands whatsoev’r of in and unto the same mesuage and tenement in man’ and forme followinge  That is to say fyrst I do give beequeth & assigne unto Katheren Kenion nowe my wiffe The Croft buildinge our Bay of Buildinge standing in the Marled Ley next unto the newe dwellinge house of Alexander Longe The Rough Ley the marked Ley the billne Ley pone Gardin lyeinge one the south syde of the said Croft buildinge for and duringe the terme of her lyffe solonge do live sole & unmarried  It’m I do Assign all the Residue and Remaynder of my house mesuage tenements houses mesuages & buildinge unto Robert Kenion my sonne As allso that p’te porcon of the said house mesuage and teneme’t closses and p’rcells of ground alloted to the said Katheren Kenion after her decease or Enter Marriage whether shall first happen after the decease of mee the said Peter Kenion unto the said Robert Kenion and the issue of the body of the said Robert Kenion lawfully to be begotten & for the default of the said Robert Kenion and his issue then I give and bequeath All the said houses edificies and buildinge closses and p’rcells of ground premisses and Appurtences ( that parte and portion of the said mesuage and teneme’ts alloted to Katheren my wiffe for terme of her natural lyffe and wydowhood only & excepted and foreprised to John Kenion younger sonne of mee the said Peter Kenion for the terme of the original lease and ................. of the said John Kenion to be ..........  It’m all my worldy goods cattells Chattells debts and Creditts whatsoever I devide into two equall porcons and partes The one halfe thereof I give and bequeth unto the said Katheren Kenion my wiffe and the other Moytie or halfe p’te thereof After all my debts legases and fun’rall expences shallbe taken upp thereof paied and discharged I give and bequeth equally unto the said Robert Kenion and John Kenion my sonnes  It’m I give and bequeth unto the said Robert Kenion one grate or halfe Chymney  It’m I give and bequeth unto the Children of Alexander Longe my sonne in lawe 20s equally amonst them all It’m I give unto Peter Kenion sonne of Robert Kenion of burtonwood 6s  8d  It’m I give & bequeth unto all & ev’ry child and children that I ame god father unto ( except those children formerly named ) 22d apeece  It’m if there shall any disagreement contencon stife debate discencon or discontentment Betweene my different Children after my decease and if after the said Robert Kenion or John Kenion or which other of them shall fortune hearafter to be estated by vertue of this my last will & testament or to have an porportie & interest in the said mesuage and tenements to be discontented with the assigneinge thereof That then and from henceforth I the said Peter Kenion do by this last will & testament give and beequeth and assigne all that p’te & porcon of my tenement ... goods of him or that fynde themselves discontented therew’th or that go aboute to crosse default or unlike this my last will void after my decease unto the Right worshipfull Sir Peter Legh knight my veerie good ........ and during the terme of the originall lease Lastly I ordeigne nominate and appoynte Robert Kenion John Kenion and the said Katheren my wiffe my true and lawfull executors of this my last will and testamente to see the same executed and p’formed as my trust is in them And I appoint my Cosins Henry Ashton & Gilbert Bankes sup’rvisers hereof to see this my executors fullfill and accomplishe the same  In Witnes whereof I the said Peter Kenion have sett my hand and Seale the day and yeare fryst above written 1625.
