The Will of William Jones

 

The last will and Testament of William Jones of Great Meols in the Parish of West Kirby in the County of Chester. I William Jones of Great Meols in the Parish of West Kirby in the County of Chester do bequeath as follows. First I commit my soul to Almighty God and beseech him of his Great Mercy to forgive my sins and save me for our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake. Amen. Secondly, I leave the Cottage or house now occupied by me situate on it and adjoining the Great Meols Common in the Township of Great Meols in the Parish of West Kirby in the County of Chester, together with any Garden or land belonging to and adjoining or belonging to or adjoining the said Cottage or house and together with all buildings, fixtures and appurtenances attached to or belonging to the said Cottage or house and garden or land, not being of the nature of household furniture or moveable goods and chattels to my wife Mary Jones for her life and after her death to my Grandson John Ouseley junior of Great Meols aforesaid and in case my said Grandson John Ouseley junior should die childless then I leave the property above specified to David Evans of Liverpool, Pilot, in trust for my children John Jones, Esther Power, Ann Houldsworth and Ellen Ouseley. The said David Evans to sell the said property or otherwise deal with it so that the said David Evans shall divide it among my said children as follows, namely one half of it shall be given to my daughter Ellen Ouseley for her sole use and advantage and the other half shall be divided and equally distributed amongst my remaining children John Jones, Esther Power and Ann Houldsworth provided that whosoever shall come into possession of the said property immediately on my decease or that of my wife if she survive me, shall pay or cause to be paid the necessary expenses of the decent burial of myself or my wife whichever of us survives the other and provided also that in the event of my daughter Ellen Ouseley becoming a widow, if during her widowhood or any part of it the said John Ouseley junior my Grandson shall be in possession of the aforesaid property or if it should then be in possession of any child or children of his, the said John Ouseley junior or his child or children shall allow my daughter Ellen Ouseley during the term of her widowhood the value currently of two ………. of the rent of the said Cottage or house or garden or land taken at a fair valuation or in lieu of this payment my said Grandson or his child or children shall allow my daughter Ellen Ouseley during such term of widowhood to occupy the two rooms situate at the Easterly end of the said Cottage or house these two rooms being those which I generally live in when I let off the rest of the house as Lodgings in the summer time. Thirdly I leave the two Cottages or houses belonging to me situate near the public house known by the sign of the “Cheshire Cheese” in Wallasey in the Parish of Wallasey in the County of Chester to my wife Mary Jones for her life and after her death to my children John Jones, Esther Power and Ann Houldsworth to be equally shared or divided among them. Fourthly I leave my household furniture and moveable goods and chattels to my children John Jones, Esther Power, Ann Houldsworth and Ellen Ouseley to be equally shared or divided among them. I make David Evans of Liverpool, Pilot, my Executor. In witness whereof I have hereto put my hand and seal this thirtieth day of May in the year of our Lord 1860.
