The Will of Elizabeth Johnson

 

This is the last Will and Testament of me Elizabeth Johnson of Ravenstone in the County of Bucks Widow as follows I give and bequeath unto my Nieces Jane the Wife of Kemmer Ann the wife of John Cherry and Mary the Wife of Robert Ashpole All my Household Goods Wearing Apparel and Linen of every sort and kind to be equally divided between them also I give and devise unto George Thomas of Brackley in the county of Northampton Gentleman all that my Messuage Cottage or Tenement with the Orchard Garden and Appurtenances to the same belonging situate and being in Wappenham in the County of Northampton To hold the same to the said George Thomas his Heirs and Assigns for ever In Trust nevertheless that he the said George Thomas his Heirs & Assigns do and shall as soon as conveniently may be after my decease dispose of my said Messuage or Tenement either by Public or Private Sale and the Monies to arise therefrom do and shall pay and distribute in the ……hereinafter mentioned Also I give and bequeath unto my very great friend the Reverend Mr John Buchanan the sum of Ten Guineas as small acknowledgement of the many favors I have received from him and of which I intreat his acceptance All my Monies and Securities for Money of every sort and kind and other the Residue of my Personal Estate not hereinbefore by me disposed of I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto the said George Thomas Subject nevertheless to the Payment of my just Debts the aforementioned Legacy the Charges of Proving this my Will and also such other Expences as the said George Thomas shall be put unto in respect of the Trusts hereby in him reposed and from and after such Payments In Trust to divide and pay the residue of such Monies as hereinbefore mentioned unto my Nephews George John Henry and Richard and my said Nieces Jane Ann and Mary Sons and Daughters of my late Sister Ann Annis deceased equally between them share and share alike And my Will is and I hereby further desire my Executor to cause me to be decently Interred in the Church Yard of Wappenham near to the Grave of my late dear Brother Nathaniel Thomas deceased and to deduct out of my Personal Estate all Charges and Expences attending the same And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said George Thomas sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament In Trust for the Purposes aforesaid revoking all former wills by me made In Witness whereof I the said Elizabeth Johnson have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and Seal the twenty third Day of July one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven Eliz: Johnson

Ravenstone 14th July 1800 Elizabeth Johnson of the Alms Yard here desires that in the event of her dying before her Niece Ann Cherry of Hellindon her said Niece shall have the Bed and every thing that belongs to it and all the clothes and all the Linens of Wearing Apparel belonging to the said Elizabeth Johnson at the time of her decease and this without Prejudice to the last Will formerly executed by Elizabeth Johnson Signed by me Eliz: Johnson
Before the following Witnesses: John Buchan Curate Joseph Watson
 
Whereas Elizabeth Johnson of the Alms Yard has by her last Will bearing date the 23rd day of July one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven desired that she might be buried at Wappenham but has since altered her opinion on that head and now deliberately prefers that she should be buried in the Church Yard of this parish of Ravenstone she in testimony of this signs this written declaration at Ravenstone the eleventh day of October one thousand eight hundred before the following witnesses Elizabeth Johnson also testifies her desire before the same Witnesses on the same day that immediately on her decease her Niece Ann Cherry of Helindon shall be sent for to take Charge of her House and ffuneral Eliz: Johnson

On the thirteenth Day of December in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and two Administration with the Will annexed of all and singular the Goods Chattells and Credits of Elizabeth Johnson late of the Parish of Ravenstone in the County of Bucks Widow deceased was granted to John Annis and George Annis two of the Residuary Legatees named in the said Will they having been first sworn duly to administer George Thomas sole Executor and residuary Legatee In Trust named in the said Will having first renounced as well the Probate and Execution thereof
