The Will of Thomas Jennings

 

In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Jennings of Chepstow in the County of Monmouth Esquire being of sound and disposing mind Memory and Understanding praised be God for the same and being mindful of my mortality and knowing that it is appointed to all men once to die and that it is a duty resting upon me to set my house in order Do make publish and declare this my last Will and testament in manner following ffirst I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator hoping for remission of all my Sins through the ....merits and all prevailing Intercession of my Saviour Jesus Christ  my body I commit to the Earth to be buried in a plain manner without any funeral pomp whatever And as to all my worldly estate both real and personal I give devise and bequeath the same as follows (that is to say) I give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved Daughter Eliza Jennings the sum of five thousand pounds of lawful money current in Great Britain to be paid to her by my Executor herein after named within twelve Calendar months next after my decease And I give and bequeath unto Winifred Jennings Widow of my late Brother John Jennings the sum of Sixty pounds of like Money Also I give and bequeath unto my Nephew John Jennings of Coleford in the County of Gloucester Surgeon the Sum of One hundred pounds and to my Niece Mira Jennings Daughter of my said late Brother  the like Sum of One hundred pounds the said several last mentioned legacies to be paid within twelve Calendar Months next after my decease And all the Rest Residue and Remainder of my personal Estate And all my real Estate whatsoever and wheresoever after payment of my just debts and my funeral and testamentary Expences and the aforesaid legacies I give devise and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my dearly beloved Son the Reverend Thomas ffryer Jennings Clerk his heirs Executors Admors and Assigns for his & their own absolute use and benefit according to the nature and quality thereof respectively And I constitute and appoint my said Son Thomas ffryer Jennings sole Executor of this my last Will and testament hereby revoking all former Wills In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the thirty first day of August in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and thirty Thos Jennings

I give my daughter Eliza Jennings the sum of One hundred pounds In trust to pay the same at such times and in such proportions as she in her entire discretion may think fit to my Niece Jesselina Louisa Lewis Wife of        Lewis for her sole and separate use not liable to the debts or controul of her husband and her receipts alone to be sufficient discharges And in case my niece shall anticipate or in any way alienate or charge the said legacy then the same or such part thereof as shall not be then paid to cease and be forfeited In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the thirty first day of August One thousand  Eight hundred and thirty _ Thos Jennings _ Witnesses Isaac Cooke Thomas Edwards
