I Mary Ward Jackson of Normanby Hall in
the North Riding of the Co of York spinster being of sound &
disposing mind do will & bequeath as follows ffirst I give &
bequeath the sum of £1000 to my valued friend the Revd Robert
Gray of Old Park in the Co of Durham his heirs & assigns for the
purpose of building a Church at Spenningmoor in the Parish of
Whiteworth Co of Durham or for any other religious object he may
wish to further shd the Church be unnecessary Secondly I give &
bequeath the sum of £500 to the five following Societies that is
to say £100 to the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in
fforeign Parts £100 to the Church Building Society £100 to the
National School Society £100 to the Curates .... Society £100 to
the Colonial Bishopric Fund Thirdly I give & bequeath to my
eldest brother George Edwin Ward Jackson his heirs & assigns the
sum of £150 to be expended in building a School house in the
Parish of Normanby And I also give & bequeath to the said George
Edwin Ward Jackson his heirs & assigns the sum of £300 to be
held by him in trust for an endowment to assist in paying the
salaries of the master & mistress of the above named school or
otherwise maintaining it And I hope that my dear brother George
knows my anxiety that the poor of this Parish should have means
of educating their children at a moderate expence will consult
my ever kind friend the Revd Robert Gray as to the immediate
erection of a School House ffourthly I give & bequeath the sum
of £100 to my dear Cousin & friend Sir Gregory Lewin in token of
my great regard & affection for him Also the small miniature of
my dear father’s mother I give to my dear Cousin Ellen Martin
Atkins my precious gray mare called Mary Gray I give to my dear
Elizabeth my Harp in order that she may dispose of it and spend
the money in some useful token of my love and esteem for her I
also give my dressing box I give to the faithful Servant Eliza
Mothersill all my linen Lastly I give the residue of my personal
estate to my dear brothers & Elizabeth to be divided between
them in equal shares after my debts funeral & testamentary
expences shall have been defrayed And I appoint Sir Gregory
Lewin & the Revd Robert Gray to be the Executors of this my last
will and testament Mary Ward Jackson the 16th day of May 1842

Affidavit of due execution sworn by
Richard Johnson of Eston in the Parish of Ormesby in the County
of York in relation to Mary Ward Jackson late of Normanby Hall
in the Parish of Ormeby aforesaid but now of 2 Alpha Cottages
Regents Park in the County of Middlesex on 17 February 1845
Proved 29 March 1845 Administration with
the Will annexed to George Edwin Ward Jackson the brother the
Executors having renounced
