In the name of god Amen The Eleaventh day
of June in the yeare of our Lord (after our English Computa’con)
one Thousand six hundred Fifty eight I John Houghton of Haydock
in the County of Lancaster housbandman being infirme & weake of
body but of p’fect remembrance (praysed be god therfore) doe
make this my last will & Testament in manner following: First I
Com’end my soule into the hands of Almighty god my Creator &
redeemer and my body to be buiryed at the p’ish Church of
Winwicke And for the temporall goods w’ch god of his mercy in
this transitory life hath lent me I give & bequeath as followeth
viz: First it is my will that my funerall expences be discharged
out of my whole goods Ite’ after my funerall expences
discharged I give to Jane Houghton my wife one shilling Ite’ to
my sonne Robert Houghton for & in full satisfaction of his
filiall por’con or Child p’te of goods one shilling Ite’ to
Anne Houghton daughter of the sayd Robert one shilling Ite’ to
Richard Pyke his five Children each of them one shilling Ite’
wheras I reserved Twenty shillings to be payd the first yeare
after my decease to such use as I should declare by my last will
by one Indenture of assignment bearing like date with this my
pr’sent will I doe now declare that the sayd sume of Twenty
shillings shall be equally divyded amongst my three Children
Henry Houghton Thomas Houghton & Alice Houghton Ite’ I give &
bequeath unto the sayd Henry Houghton Thomas & Alice (after my
debts & legacies payd & discharged) all the residue & remainder
of my sayd goods whatsoever Excepting two payre of bedstockes
standing in the Chamber at the East end of the house one grate
one dishboard one salt pych & the hanging shelves in the
dwelling house all w’ch goods soe excepted I give to the sayd
Robert Houghton my eldest sonne And I ordaine & Constitute my
beloved brother in law Henry Bate my true & lawfull executor of
this my last will & Testament hoping he will execute & performe
the same as mt trust is in him And I the sayd John Houghton to
this my p’sent willnow put my hand & seale the day & yeare above
written
