The Will of Richard Hore
In the Name of God Amen I Richard Hore of the Parish of St Ebbe in the County of Oxford gentleman being in health of Body and of sound and disposing Mind Memory and Understanding but considering the uncertainty of Life do make this my last Will and Testament (that is to say)ffirst I will that all my just Debts ffuneral And Testamentary Expences shall be paid And after Payment thereof Then I give and bequeath unto my Brother James Hore of the said City of Oxford Gentleman the Sum of ffive Pounds of lawful Money Also I give and bequeath unto my Son in Law Richard Southam of the said City of Oxford Baker the Sum of fforty Pounds of like lawful Money and which said Sum he now has in his possession Also I give and bequeath unto my five Grandchildren James How Southam Elizabeth Southam Mary Southam Hester Southam and Richard Southam Sons and Daughters of my said Son in Law Richard Southam the Sum of one hundred Pounds a piece of like lawful Money to be paid to them respectively by my Executrix herein after named as they and each of them shall severally and respectively attain his her or their several and respective Ages of twenty and five Years But in case either of my said Grandchildren James, Elizabeth, Mary, Hester or Richard shall die before his her or their Legacy or Legacies shall become due and payable Then the Legacy or Legacies of him her or them so dying as aforesaid shall go to and be equally divided amongst the Survivors and Survivor of them And I hereby charge and make chargeable all my Estates and Effects with the Payment of the same accordingly But in case all my said Grandchildren shall depart this life before they attain their said Ages of twenty and five Years Then my Will is that the Legacies so given and bequeathed by me to them as aforesaid shall sink in to the Residuum of my Personal Estate for the benefit of my Executrix herein after named I also give unto my said Grandson James How Southam a Silver Quart Tankard To my Grand daughter Elizabeth Southam a Silver Pint Cup To my Granddaughter Mary Southam two large Silver Table Spoons To my Grand Daughter Hester Southam six Silver Tea Spoons and a pair of Silver Tea Tongs Also I give unto my said Grandson Richard Southam my Silver Watch Also I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth the Wife of my said Son in Law Richard Southam All that my Messuage or Tenement wherein I now inhabit and Dwell with the Garden Ground Heredits and Appurts thereunto belonging situate lying and being in the Parish of Saint Ebbe aforesaid and by me lately purchased To Hold to my said Daughter Elizabeth her Executors Admors and Assigns and to be subject to her disposal in such manner as she in her discretion shall see most meet Also I give and bequeath unto my said Elizabeth the Wife of my said Son in Law Richard Southam All those my two Tenements with the Bakehouse ffuel Houses Outhouses Heredits and Appurtenances thereunto belonging situate and being in Jesus College Lane in the Parish of St Michael in the said City of Oxford and which I hold by Lease from the ffeoffees of the Parish of St Michael aforesaid To hold to my said Daughter Elizabeth her Executors Administrators and Assigns for and during all my Estate Term and Interest therein and Subject to her disposal in such manner as she shall think proper All the rest residue and remainder of my Goods Chattells Credits |Effects ready Money Securities for Money Household ffurniture and Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth the Wife of my said Son in Law Richard Southam To hold to her my said Daughter Elizabeth her Executors Administrators and Assigns and Also subject to her disposal in such manner as she shall think Proper And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said Daughter Elizabeth Southam sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Will and Wills by me heretofore made and declaring this to be my last Will only In Testimony whereof I the said Richard Hore the Testator have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the sixteenth day of December in the Year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eight three Richd Hore

I Richard Hore of the Parish of St Michael in the City of Oxford Gentleman do this seventeenth day of April one thousand seven hundred and eighty six make and publish this my Codicil to be annexed to my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say) I give and bequeath unto my Granddaughter Sarah Southam Daughter of my Son in Law Richard Southam Sum of one hundred Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid to her at her Age of twenty five Years by my Executrix but in case she shall die before she attains that Age Then I give the same unto and amongst such of her Brothers and Sisters who shall live to Attain that Age that shall be living at her death And if all of them shall die before the said Age of twenty five Years Then I give the said Sum of one hundred Pounds unto my Daughter Elizabeth (the Wife of Richard Southam) my Executrix And Lastly it is my desire that this present Codicil be annexed to and made a part of my last Will and Testament to all intent s and purposes In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the day and Year first above written Richd Hore
