In the name of God amen, witnesses kept, I Thomas Hodgson of Halifax in the county of York, Blacksmith, being sick in bodye but of wide and perfect remembrance praised be God, do ordain and make this my last will and testament in manner and form following. That is to say, first I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God trusting and faithfully believing in the merits and blood shedding of his onelie (only) son my only saviour and redeemer to give full redemption of all my sins and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Halifax amongst the faithful people of Christ. Also I give and bequeath to Agnes Hodgson my wife one moiety standing upon Halifax Green and it's appurtenance in the  ...... of the said Thomas Hodgson or his assigns for life and after the decease of the said Agnes Hodgson my wife I  freely give and bequeath the said moiety to Ellin Hodgson my daughter to hold to her and to the issue of her body lawfully begotten forever.

    Also I will that all just debts as I do owe to be first paid out of all my goods when my debt is paid then all rest and remainder  I freely give it to Agnes my wife whom I make executor of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof i have set my hand and seal the 30th day of Novemnber in the fortie year if the reign of our most gracious sovereign lady Elizabeth, by the grace of God Queen of England, France and Ireland, defender of the faith.
