In the
name of God amen, the 16th day of October in the 34th year of
the reign of our most gracious sovereign ladye Elizabeth, the
Queen of England Ireland and France. I Marmaduke Hodgson of
Calverley within the countie of York, husbandman, sick in
bodye but of perfect memory praised be God, do make and ordain
this my last will and testament in manner and forme following
:first I commend my soul into the hands of almighty God my maker
and redeemer, and my body to be buried in the parish church of
Calverley. From remembering my word good my will is that such
debts as I owe of right unto any man be paid out of my whole
goodes.
From I
will that Jane Howe my wife's daughter shall (be in
receipt of xx's of good and lawful monie of England I owe unto
her) have one brown cow and that shall be kept upon my
tenement, but till she have a calf. From I give and bequeath
unto the said Jane Howe one new kettle. From I give and
bequeath my tenement during the year ...........I have in it to
Jane Hodgson my wife and if it please God to call her out
of that mortal life before the year be ended and expired then I
give and bequeath it to my son Christopher Hodgson during
such time as shallbe then appointed, being such ordayned. I
whollie give and bequeath to Jane my wife and Christopher
Hodgson my sonne equallie divided betwixt them my remaining
goods and chattells.
And I
make the said Jane my wife and Christopher my son the
executors of this my last will and testament. And I
appoint the tuition and government of Christopher my sonne
to Jane my wife during his minority and that she pay unto
him his portion as it shall amount unto by this my last will
when he cometh to lawful years of age.
